You have to try a Big Apple Inn pig ear sandwich or a hot "Smoke"!

What a great documentary! I don't know why the history of Mississippi food, music and people isn't marketed the way Louisiana's is. A lot more people would benefit from it.

When we have family visit from other parts of the country, they always want to eat at Big Apple. Its a unique Mississippi experience, and the food is really good. I'm glad its still around-- a piece of history moving forward.
  • I was raised in Jackson. I loved going to big Apple and to the Almo Theater...my old stomping grounds!! You can take the girl out of Mississippi but you can’t take the Mississippi out of the girl!! Every time I go home best believe that ‼️🙋🏾‍♀️❤️

We used to walk to Farish Street when I lived in Jackson Mississippi , we also fished in the Pearl River for Pan Trout yes those was the days back in the day . I still remember when we would skip school classes from time to time and go to the Alamo Theatre on Farish Street .

I'm 54 years old and I've been eating pig ear sandwiches forever. The only parts of the hog we could afford were the ears, feet, tail, snout and intestines.

I was born and raised in Jackson Mississippi. I grew up eating Big Johns....my Mother ate there for years, starting in 1960s up until the 2010s. I left Mississippi 20 years ago because of the horrible decline. Big John's is the only thing that would ever bring me back to that city. You will never find good eating like that anywhere else.
  • My mom and aunt pat loved this place back in the day .. home of the red hot sausage sandwich . When I moved to New York in the late 80s I feel 8n love with white castle 🏰 all ways remind me of big John's i enjoyed as a 70s baby in Jackson 😎

I enjoyed watching this video. I'm from Birmingham and have only been to Jackson once. Next time I'm there I'll stop by The Big Apple Inn. I've never had a pig ear sandwich but I'll probably see what else is on the menu. Lol Thanks for sharing!
  • Had my first Pig Ear Sandwich in Atlanta Georgia in the early 70s . Going to take Greyhound Bus to Jackson Ms. From Los Angeles so I won't miss this Restaurant
