Indefensible Disney: The Incomplete and Scaled-Back Avengers Campus

2024-06-23に共有
A lot of people have a lot of opinions about The Walt Disney Company. But there's this weird contingency that, for whatever reason, go out of their way to voraciously defend some of the company's most anti-consumer policies. Most of them are on the Disneyland Reddit. Maybe it's an age thing.

In any case, there are a lot of things happening in their theme parks that really can't be defended. Exhibit 1: Avengers Campus.

You COULD argue that the land wasn't so bad when it opened. But you really can't argue that not opening the area's signature attraction three years later and eliminating and cutting back on the performers who roam the place is in any way, shape, or form, for the benefit of the guests.

We're not mad, Disney. We're just disappointed. The company is definitely at a crossroads - are we going to be wowed at D23? Or is this the beginning of a truly unprecedented fall from grace?

  • Disney lost their vision and morals. To Disney, you're just a cash machine. Their juice is no longer worth the squeeze.

Pretty much nailed it. We’re witnessing the decline of corporate Disney.
  • @JohnKulin
From Bug's land that had 4 kiddy rides and one theater to just... 1 ride and one to two shows.
  • Makes you wonder how they're going to counter what Universal is going to be opening in the next 2 years. With how long it takes them to build a legit ride experience that isn't canceled, Disney has to be worried that competition has done way more than caught up with them. Fast and Furious is going to be the west coast's VelociCoaster and Epic Universe in Florida is going to make people forget Disney World is down the road.

These days the bottom line is more important than the guest experience. Disney only cares about finding more ways to fleece the rubes.
  • @LauraBow
I remember getting hyped for a Disney spiderman ride when I heard about only for it to be a screen shooter
  • Disney is retheming and reskinning lands and rides while Universal is down the way creating state of the art experiences and a whole new Universe.

As the owner of a blog that basically laments the decisions Niantic makes about Pokémon GO on a weekly basis, I highly enjoyed this critical look at Disney.
  • They legit announced an awesome looking Quinjet ride when Campus was first announced, silently cancelled it, replaced it with what looks like a Star Tours-type ride (yay another screen based ride), and I don't think they've even started construction on the show building for it. This was, what, 5 years ago they announced the land?
  • @akcalo
Disney is just becoming a glorified mall now
  • The one thing about avengers campus that annoys me the most is the fact we could of had something cool like asgard or Wakanda instead we got a businesses district looking area with barely themed buildings
  • The magic is gone. I visited both parks, the one in California and the one in Florida and just felt sad and depressed going there. The California park is particularly dystopian.
  • It’s crazy to compare this land with Marvel’s Island of Adventure in Orlando. IOA is so much more dynamic, exciting, and fun. Plus it has more rides. Even comparing it to a land like Diagon Alley, another IP themed land with just one ride and a couple of shows, is just sad because Diagon Alley feels lived in, there’s things to look at everywhere you go, tiny details that might go unnoticed your first or second time there, and you really feel like you’re living in the movie. Avengers land was so sparse with themed details. They slapped a few spider bots around and put that one hulk tree somewhere and called it a day lol.
  • They use the Disney parks revenue to pay for the streaming debts movies underachieving and cut costs on future Disney projects 🤦🏻‍♂️!
  • I LOVED DISNEY. VACATATIOED AT WDW 3-4 TIMES A YEAR FOR 10 YEARS. THEN I MOVED TO FLORIDA IN 1993 FOR RETIRMENT. I GOT A JOB AT DISNEY IN 1994 FOR SOMETHING TO DO. WORKING THERE GRADUALLY NEGATIVELY CHANGED MY OPINION OF THE COMPANY, NOT THE PRODUCT. THE LAST 5 YEARS HAS INTENSIFIED MY DISGUST FOR THE COMPANY AND HAS INITIATED A COMPLETE, FOR THE MOST PART, DISDAIN FOR THE PRODUCT. I'M NO LONGER PASSIONATE ABOUT DISNEY AND THAT'S SAD.
  • yeah the fact that I only go to Avengers campus to get an IPA is pretty sad. Why didn't they just open the ride that was supposed to be there?
  • i can't believe that you don't have a ton more subscribers! this is a super well done video. i just visited avenger's campus for the first time this spring and i was also severely underwhelmed. web slingers as the main attraction felt so unbelievably low effort.
