  • I did a search here on YouTube on how to restore backyard solar lights and your video was the first one to come up. I'm definitely going to try this! Thanks for a well explained video of all your steps.
  • Living in a throwaway society; it is nice to see practical ideas for renewing weathered solar lights, preventing waste and best of all saving money by not buying replacement lights.

I watched the video and read the comments. Today, I pulled all the old lights out, took them apart, cleaned them, used Magic Eraser and Simple Green for the tops, did the sandpaper that you recommend, and am changing out the batteries now. I will spray them in the morning! Thanks everyone for the awesome tips to help me waste less!
  • My husband tried a damp magic eraser sponge and it took the haze off immediately. Don't bother with all these steps. We did spray the Rustoleum clear gloss UV resistant non-yellowing on the top after, but you really just need to use a magic eraser to get the film off!

Wow! At first I thought it was a lot of steps, but every one of them was worth it. I cleaned all of my Mom's solar lights -- pathway, strings, decorative garden lights ... they are all like brand new. Thanks for the video!

This was the first video that came up from my search for something like this.
  • A lot of great information! Some people may not think of this, but it’s important to remove the batteries, when not in use. A simple step sometimes forgotten.
  • Another handy thing I learned this year is, these lights come with a 200-300 mAh battery. If you replace them with a 900-1200mAh battery, they'll stay on much, much longer.
  • We really needed this tutorial. I didn’t know what to do except throw our lights away. I think I’ll be able to save 90% of them using your method.
  • I agree, thank you so much. I was just trying to convince my husband we needed to do something about our solar lights needing to be cleaned. Hell listen to you
  • Good video. These days so many people just want to buy dollar store lights and treat them like Bic lighters. It makes a lot more sense to buy decent things and take care of what you have.
  • I've done this, and it works.I kept all of them, and I thank you 😊. I'm glad I did not toss them.

GREAT solar path light restore tips! Thank you so much!!!!
  • Thank you so much for sharing, I have so many garden lights, that look awful, this weekend I'm going to do what you showed us in this video, I hate to throw something away, because things aren't made the way they used to be years ago...
  • Thank you so much kind sir. People that make videos like this are my heroes. Thank you
  • Gave it a try, worked great. So grateful you posted this. Thank you!

Nice, i'll have to give this a try. I've also found that taking the battery out and giving it a full charge via a charger once in a while will help you get the max output too.
