The Philippines has successfully resupplied its troops stationed on Second Thomas Shoal, not by sea but by air. It comes days after Manila announced it would develop the islands and features within its territory in the West Philippine (South China) Sea. And after Lai Ching-te won Taiwan’s presidential election on Jan. 13, many countries congratulated him on his victory. But it seems it was Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s message of congratulations that irked Beijing the most.

Our guests:

Tony Hu
- Former U.S. Department of Defense senior director for China, Taiwan and Mongolia

Ronan Fu
- Assistant research fellow, Academia Sinica Institute of Political Science

There are over 150,000 Overseas Filipino Workers based in Taiwan. Pres. Marcos and the Filipinos know and understand that a free Taiwan is better for both countries.❤

The gesture of President Marcos is one way of expressing gratefulness for the good treatment of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) in Taiwan.
  • @LMNSeason
Taiwan has been kind to filipino OFWs. We filipinos will not turn our back on Taiwan.
  • @bebot2014
Marcos said it is a "common courtesy", Taiwan congratulated him when he won, which was why he returned back the greeting for Taiwan's leader's success. He is bewildered as to why China acted that way. It is an etiquette

Philippines is just quiet in terms of military strategy and operations but in case of war Philippines is also willing to help Taiwan militarily I think just what happened in South Korea during the Korean war.
  • Again, we Pilipinos are always saying WE WILL NEVER BACKDOWN FOR OUR OWN TERITORY..If China will hurt us, WE WILL FIGHT....

Good for the Philippines! They know how to stand up to a bully 😊😊😊
  • It is but a good act of any President of any country who is an ally to Taiwan to congratulate Taiwan's newly- elected president.
