In this special episode, I share my interview with the late philosopher Daniel C. Dennett, one of his final interviews before his passing on April 19, 2024, at the age of 82. Conducted in February 2024 during the UM6P Science Week event in Morocco, our conversation covered a wide range of thought-provoking topics:

00:00 Teaser
01:44 Intro
04:22 Dennett in Morocco
05:26 Rappaport Rules
12:22 Consciousness
26:02 AI
41:55 Pain & Sentience
50:00 Qualia don't exist
52:50 Meaning & Evolution
54:26 Mortality
57:40 Advice for the Young

Professor Dennett's insights on the nature of the mind, advancements in AI, and the wonder of life showcase the depth and impact of his philosophical contributions. His reflections on mortality, shared in this interview just two months before his death, hold a special poignancy.
Beyond the interview, I share some personal reflections on my time spent with Professor Dennett, including a thought-provoking discussion about his famous "capital D and J" test for AI cognition, which the impressive Claude 3 AI recently passed during our lunch conversation.
While Daniel C. Dennett may no longer be with us, his immense legacy and impact on modern philosophical thought will undoubtedly live on and continue to inspire groundbreaking work that pushes human knowledge forward.
I would like to thank UM6P's Science Week organizers for inviting Dennett to Morocco and facilitating this discussion. If you enjoyed this conversation, please subscribe to the channel, hit the like button, and share your thoughts in the comments below.

It's a good idea to talk to and with Daniel dennet. I had the oportunity to meet some of his canadian students who have been Professors at the Western University (Ontario) in 2013. Unfurtunatly students and even teachers of philosophy in Morocco are not intrested in the kind of philosophy developed by Dannett. They are either francophone or arabophone. In my view Dannett was a great man.
  • I am equally gladdened, to view this conversation with Dan, and saddened that he is no longer.

havent been back to morocco in 10+ years, but very happy to see that the young generation is standing up and realizing rationality and science will(without throwing the religious baby out with the bathwater) is a superior way of modeling ideal behaviour in a society and minimize human suffering! never could I have guessed daniel would be invited and celebrated in morocco

I loved Dr. Daniel Dennett, very sad to hear about his passing, I would have loved to meet him, he was my absolute favorite, an intellectual giant, a legend, true sage, heard he was also very kind gentle person, huge loss to civilization, I will watch tons of his lectures in the next few weeks in his memory, I made a playlist of his lectures and interviews for myself to work through, listening to Dr Dennett lectures would be my idea of Heaven 1:00:17
