  • Bravo! 👏🏽 to the first responders and the quick decision to call mayday.
  • @dcrasta
So sad all the way around : I’m glad those merchant sailors made that mayday call . No one starts their day wanting to be involved in such a tragic incident. Prayers to the families and community.
  • Hard to believe they shut down lanes within 3 min. Good thing it was 1am vs 1pm.
  • @mimirows
Nobody is talking about the fact that there was no emergency communication equipment available to the workers on the bridge. They were out there on their own without any thought to their safety.
  • Lesson: Big ships crossing under a Bridge must be assisted by TUGS, similar to passing through a Canal.
  • @harlemscorpio
What's upsetting is that the 6 workers weren't also told to evacuate the bridge as the traffic was being stopped on both sides.. smfh!

Please, please stop the mindless background music in these videos. It may seem to be low in volume, but it makes it very difficult for many of us to concentrate on the voices and what they are saying. Thank you for considering this. I can provide more background on this if needed.

My condolences to the families and friends of the hard workers keeping our roads safe, they only had seconds to respond........😢😢

Great job of the Captain for alerting authorities so quickly 👏🏻
  • Watching that big rig and those 2 cars cross just shortly before the collapse is crazy af
  • I hope the investigation includes why the workmen weren’t pulled off the bridge and what in the future can be done for better communication!
  • I used to work on Singapore registered ships as a young man. Sailed once into Baltimore for repairs at a yard in Steeltown. Met some nice people there and watched Molly Hatchet in concert. My deepest sympathies for your loss.

I appreciate the detailed coverage here. Well done. I am impressed that such coverage has reached us on YT so quickly and with so much detail. It’s tragic that lives were lost, beyond words really. It’s very impressive that lives were also saved through the actions of the crew, pilots, and those who stopped traffic. Nothing can bring back the dead. It’s an extremely good thing that the number isn’t higher. Yet like all tragedies, it’s beyond terrible that it was even a single life, let alone 6. (Or whatever the final tally is). It should not go without mentioning that safety is all of our responsibility. Every time a corner is cut, or we ask others to cut them, lives are risked. How many people stop to consider what the market forces they project cause in the wider world. What support we provide for those whose greed has matched our own ignorance of what corners are cut to provide us with what we want.

No ship of that size - should be allowed anywhere near vulnerable structures like bridges without - tug boats. Where I live no large shipping vessels are allowed under the Humber Bridge all large vessels must anchor or bay way before ever getting near bridges. The whole port/s and infrastructure are kept away from bridges. No port or bay should be located under a passing point of a passenger bridge- all ports needing to hold large shipping lanes be made away from bridges
  • @94SexyStang
That bridge SHOULD have had crash pylons, especially with ships doing over 8 knots threw that channel, period!!!!! That's literally Asking for an accident.....it's absolute stupidity and insanity.
  • This should not have happened tug boats should be used until the ship is safely out at sea or past any any infrastructure such as docks or bridges crossing waterways. Why wasn't the ship in mid channel well and truly before it got to the Bridge area.
  • @Snoborder95
To answer the title of the video, I think it was the ship that caused the collapse
  • @wvangus82
This one will probably make it to the mayday shows after the ntsb finishes their investigation. RIP to the workers so many of us are praying for the families

Key Bridge collapse To build a bridge with a structure to withstand a collision with a giant container ship is prohibitively expensive if not impossible, but to build the barriers around the piles to act as the deflective shields is very affordable and effective. Redundant security: for the exposed ports where buildings are too close to the shores, arrestor gears like those of the carriers can be placed to catch the anchors of the runaway ships in cases of emergency.
