It's far easier to prevent autocracy than to recover once they have taken power.

Americans have never had it so good and appreciated it less.

I'm not usually a fan of CNN in general, but this was an excellent editorial. Just like Winston Churchill said: "Democracy is the worst form of government – except for all the others that have been tried."

Thanks Fareed. I have been saying this for a while. Many of our American compatriots need to get out and see the world. Standing from the outside, you get a better appreciation for what we have.

I wish I shared the optimism. What disturbs me the most are not the real and wannabe autocrats — they will always exist — but the sheer numbers of people who continue to support them. How can one be so unaware of history?

The first 3 words of our Constitution are "We the People." The first words of project 2025 are, "We the top 2%" Protect our Constitution at all costs. 🇺🇸 Semper Fi..

In a world where truth is often obscured, we urgently need more visionary voices like Mr. Zakaria to illuminate the path. His insightful commentary is a beacon of clarity, cutting through the noise to reveal the heart of the matter. I'm deeply grateful for his dedication to informed storytelling and wish him divine blessings and continued success!

too bad Zakaria didnt have the balls to show how the world views the US use of influence, good or bad ...

Polarisation in America will be difficult to overcome, unless the electorate becomes better informed and open-minded (mature), including the 'undecided' population.

What the world is seeing is a political Party completely out of control with zero boundaries.
  • Nothing more American than having it all, but “feeling” like things are bad

Your conclusion of public views on US and China is based on data from 24 countries? 24 Countries, LOL this is how you are based on? If you would do the same view survey on 200 UN nations, then tell us the results.

Considering both the French elections and the new Imperial Presidency America now enjoys Im not sure this really aged well Fareed.

Thank you, Fareed, for putting all the effort in that you put in to soften your accent and to make yourself MUCH more understandable to English-speaking audiences. A couple of years ago I (and a whole lot of other people) kind of waded through your very thick accent to hear and understand your brilliant comments. Now you are a joy to listen to, both in terms of clarity and of course in terms of you great analysis. It must have taken a lot, but we than you!
