In this episode of The War Zone, Maddie Hale is joined by Mark Cancian, a former Marine and senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Mr Cancian predicts a potential invasion of Taiwan by China, sharing insights on the complex dynamics between the two countries.

He highlights the potential consequences of these dynamics and the possibility of autonomous governance in the future, covering how Taiwan and the United States would fight back against an invasion by China.

This comes as reports surface that China has launched unexpected 'punishment' drills which encircle Taiwan only a short while after the swearing in of a new Taiwanese president branded as a "separatist".

The Telegraph newspaper in the United Kingdom report that experts have said these drills are simulating a full scale attack on Taiwan.

He has discounted the Japanese who have said they will help Taiwan defend itself from the PRC.. And, of course, the PRC has threatened to basically destroy Japan. So it ain't just the US and Taiwan vs the PRC anymore.

For the “China” crowd: 1) If Taiwan is certainly part of China, then why is the word “reunification” used? 2) If Taiwan needs to be “reunified” with Taiwan, then why use the word “separatist”? 3) If “reunification” means the PRC controlling Taiwan, why? Taiwan has never been under the control of the PRC. 4) “One China policy” and “One China principle” are not the same thing. Taiwan’s lack of UN recognition doesn’t mean that countries view Taiwan as belonging to China, as all of the developed first world allows Taiwanese passport holders entry without visa requirement. 5) Yes, “China” appears in Taiwan’s official name “Republic of China.” That doesn’t mean that Taiwan should belong under PRC rule. 6) Taiwan once being part of the Qing dynasty means nothing. I suppose Austria belongs to Germany then since Austrians are ethnic Germans and that Austria was once part of Bavaria. How about parts of Poland too? 7) If China is so bothered by “outside forces” meddling in what it sees as an “internal affair,” then why does it ignore other countries’ sovereignty by spreading disinformation and committing transnational repression?

Russia thought it would be 11days war with Ukraine and then win, China is underestimating Taiwan. Guys, this will not easy.
  • China should always rethink before invading Taiwan, every little thing have their strength too
  • It's not just Taiwan and America, It's Japan ,Australia , The Philippines, Vietnam, Possibly nato, and India.
  • In this age of abundance of precision missiles and drones, anyone who thinks Chinese troop and supply ships would not get sunk before they reach the halfway mark of the Taiwan Straits is free to live in a fantasy world. 😩
  • The troops to defend Taiwan: USA = 2.080.000 Japan = 261.000 Taiwan = 169.000 Total: 2.510.000 = Troops
  • Chine has millions of men who have no families of their own as there are no women for them, they could sustain for quite some time on several fronts, maybe 🤷🏻‍♂️ it’s a mess, for sure

An interesting and absolutely important point is: North Korea! Nobody talks about Kim Sun Un. Does anyone think Kim will just sit back and wait to see what happens around him? He depends on China, forgotten the sanctions on his country? I can no longer listen to the absolutely stupid conclusions of the so-called “experts”. Kim is not the type of character who hesitates long before pressing the nuclear button. He will probably do this faster than any other warring party. And then God bless South Korea and Japan!! North Korea's active army is almost as large as the entire active US armed forces (Wikipedia List of countries by number of military and paramilitary personnel), not as well equipped as the US, but that doesn't mean anything, just look at what the US against the Taliban didn’t get in 20 years. And I haven't even mentioned the Russians. In a Taiwan crisis, the Europeans will first have to worry about their own security (that without enough ammunition?). Also all Taiwanese who do not want war should be included in the so-called war games. When the civilian population was polled to ask whether they preferred independence or China, the answer was clear: WE DON'T WANT WAR. And this answer came from most of the respondents. We don't know how they will behave in their own country. Nobody talks about a completely different and much more important power. For most countries, China is one of the largest, if not the largest, trading partner. Those countries who, for example, found empty shelves in supermarkets during the pandemic should remember this.

The war games run are available on the web for a better review of the actual details. It is not going to be simply the PRC vs. Taiwan/US.

Its easier to find a baseball in the intire sky ...then to find one Virginia class nuclear sub in the ocean ..... not mentioning the B21s .. The B52s . .kept far away for the response

It would be next to impossible for China to even build up the size of fleet that would be needed to invade Taiwan. The U.S. Navy had 300 ships eleven of which were fleet aircraft carriers and 18 battleships when they assaulted Okinawa and that was 1944. China would need three times that to land personnel on Taiwan. They would have to commandeer every cargo ship in the country and it would take weeks and be very obvious. Not to mention the 100 miles of open ocean they would have to cross to get there and Taiwan will have hundreds of missiles and shells for everyone of them. I personally don't think China will invade but we'll see.

GOD HELP TAIWAN...I SUPPORT TAIWAN...FROM PHILIPPINES
  • If Xi and his Communist China troops really want to take Taiwan, a small island with only 23 millions population, and a territory it NEVER controlled weven one day since the communist PROC was established, while the nation of Taiwan-ROC (Republic of China) had been in existence since 1912, then let your forces come across the Taiwan Strait and see who will prevail. Taiwan-ROC never challenged Communist China but instead helped its economy to grow out of dire poververty after their disastrous first 40 years of ruling China and calamity. Now after making money with helps from Western nations including Taiwan, China wants to take over this island nation in order to take on the U.S. to be the new superpower. But China has nothing to show the world that they are both benevolent and has a political and governance system that can help the world's economy. They support periahs such as North Korea and post-Soviet Russia under another dictator Putin. These 3 nations, along with mullah-ruled Iran (which just lost its infamous President Raisi nicknamed 'Butcher') are the curse of our earth. People of Taiwan will not tolerate a vicious bandit type of neighbor like Communist China. People of Taiwan will not stand down and surrender their hard earned liberty and freedom of being a democratic nation and being part of the 'freed' world. Tyranny and aggressors must be dealt with with conviction and determination so that the tragedy of Staling, Mao, Hitler and potentially of Xi and Putin are NOT continued well into the 21st century. We the people of Taiwan till do our part and we hope the rest of peace and freedom loving nations will not risking their own people's future to would be, future aggressors on history's stages.
