in games that used light guns, the gun itself was only half of the peripheral needed to play the game, the other half was the old technology of crt televisions, since the technology exploited the combination of a receiver (the gun) that scans of the individual white pixels emitted at high frequency by the cathode ray tube to know where on the screen it was pointing given that in CRTs the image was composed pixel by pixel one line at a time while in modern flat screens LCD/Led/plasma/OLED and so the image is shown entirely at once the gun has no way of knowing where it is pointing

Regarding the Light Gun for Silent Scope: You need a CRT for it to properly work
  • The light gun won't work on modern tv's, You need a CRT tv for it to work.

Forza Motorsport 4 was such a big part of my childhood it’s so nostalgic
  • @kendon81
for old school light gun games you need a CRT monitor or TV to be able to use the light gun.

The first Guitar Hero did the same for me, 15+ years later and I’m still playing 🎸. That Antigua Strat btw… gorgeous

for the gun i think you are suppose to use a CRT TV
  • light gun games are made for CRT screens so they can track your movement. An LCD screen won't work with a light gun.
  • man could you imagine if "sniper scope" got a major over hall for some of the new games how much fun it would be to play.

Steel Battalion was epic... if they ever make a next version for modern consoles I'll grab it but you'd assume it needs VR tech now.
  • Whats really funny about HD DVD is spec wise it blew Blu Ray out of the water. So of course it was going to lose to Blu Ray 😂

dang the vid barely started and it already seems like insane editing

This is simply the holy grail of Mecha-gaming! Congrats for getting one and Never ever give it away!
  • The gun probably didn't work because you might have to use an actual old-school TV. Maybe even up to the "HD Flat Screen" not like todays "Flat screen" TVs, I mean the ones with actual glass screens that were flat and didn't Buble out. I think I remember a friend having this same problem and having to find an old TV to play the game on. And when it came to the "HD DVD" vs "Blu-ray" wasn't just because Microsoft wasn't on the list. The HD DVD was some times as much as $20 less than it's Blu-ray counterpart. So they figured "If you have to buy all of your favorite movies again, the $200 pricetag would still save the consumer money." Especially since most people didn't even have a TV that you could truly tell the difference on yet. Again, this was still the time of TV screens being made of glass and were super bulky in the back. (BTW: Who remembers going to the store and seeing the regular DVDs for around $20 then the HD DVDs at about $30 and then the Blu-ray at $50-$60 a dang movie!? Another fun fact is that the very first ever movie EVER shot on a RED Camera (Do your research on them if you don't know. I'll just say that before RED to get a good movie quality camera you're looking at it up out $120,000+ But the RED at the time could shoot in Blu-ray quality AND HIGHER They actually almost came out with something called "RED-Rey" but the problem was we didn't have 4K TV back in like 05'-08' But you could get a RED camera for only $30,000-$50,000 and buy add-ons as you needed.) was the movie Death Race, for those that don't know what the movie is or also wasn't even born at this time. It was a movie about prisoners racing armored cars with weapons attached to them and if you got like 10 first place wins in a row, you would be released from prison, they didn't just do the races for no reason, they made a TV show out of it in the movie and it was the highest rated show of all time in that movies dystopian modern-day at that time. Critics didn't like the movie too much but it had enough of a cult following that they made a second and I believe even a third movie.
