Iā€™ve seen a team of neurosurgeons once from a distance. They look tried with dark bags underneath their eyes but all of them were laughing and looking so proud.
  • To all aspiring Neurosurgeons: I recommend reading Do No Harm by Henry Marsh.
  • @HongMSFSHORTS
A general surgeon mentioned this to me: If you ever feel down about your work, talk to a neurosurgeon to cheer yourself up
  • @Velisabeth
Please donā€™t ever stop doing these. They help so much Iā€™m looking forward to seeing you cover many more (hopefully all) specialities
  • so proud that my mom is a neurosurgeon and is advancing on her field even though she's a minority in it

  • @TheWalterHWhite
The good news is that when you finish your neurosurgery residency, if you decide to not practice you'll be old enough to draw Medicare.
  • @lilywooding1853
I commented neurosurgeon everytime AND IT'S FINALLY HAPEENING wow thanks for all the likes

Iā€™m a junior in high school and when I was a freshman Iā€™ve always wanted to be a neurosurgeon, however I now want to be an anesthesiologist now šŸ˜…. To those who are pursuing neurosurgery good luck, donā€™t give up, and god speed you are one of the smartest and dedicated people ever
  • @Tactics.squad.
I will graduate from medical school in two months and I will run for neurosurgery residency I wish to get back to this comment as a specialist in 7 years Wish me luck Edit: Under some circumstances I did one year in Radiology and gained some experience in it and now I am doing Gynecology for also one year. It's just temporary until I have a stable place to live in then I will run for neurosurgery residency

As a neurosurgeon in the US, I would say this a great and very informative video. The only criticism I have is that you keep mentioning the surgeries are crude and less precise. I also did plastic surgery rotations as well as rotations in various other surgical subspecialties as a med student and I chose neurosurgery for the technical nuances of the surgeries. Micro vascular decompressions, skull base surgeries as you mentioned, surgical ligation of aneurysms, av fistulas, endoscopic surgeries, intramedullary spinal cord lesions, endovascular procedures (pipeline stents, selective embolizations, thrombectomies,)duroplastys, cerebral bypasses(ever see 10-mm prolene sutures used to anastamose vessels 2mm in size)? Even XLIF approaches for the spine with small working corridors are much more nuanced than most surgical procedures. DBS, stereoEEG placement (2-3mm off target can make a huge clinical difference in outcomes). Corpus callosotimes, selective amygdalohippocampectomies, functional hemispherectomties... the list goes on and on. The big difference in neurosurgery is that if you make a mistake, the stakes are much higher: you can cause a stroke leading to aphasia, plegia, blindness, coma and death. Hit the spinal cord during surgery and your patient will never walk again. The stakes are much higher. Iā€™m not sure where you did your neurosurgery rotation but your exposure must have been very limited. to say itā€™s crude or imprecise in any way is an injustice to the field. Nonetheless I think your video is very informative and insightful. You guys did a great job. I will definitely recommend it to any medical student who is considering the field.
  • @amorvita11
Wait rocket surgeon sounds badass, do a video on that

I remember watching this video 2 years ago when I was a MS4, now I'm a neurosurgery resident! Hope to do a cerebrovascular fellowship afterwards. Here some tips to whoever is interested: 1) If you're a high schooler, go to the best possible college you can. This will help you get into an elite medical school 2) A lot of neurosurgeons come from top 20 medical schools, work hard in college and get into a great med School. Becoming a neurosurgeon will be significantly harder if you go DO or lower tier MD. 3) You need to do well in medical school, but by that point the pressure isn't as high. You don't need to be 1st in your class, but ace the Step 1/Step 2. Get involved with neurosurgical research. 4) Don't force a circular peg into a square hole, surgery isn't for most and you'll realize that by the time you're doing rotations as a MS3. Feel free to reply with any questions about the field!
  • If I became a neurosurgeon, Iā€™ll act like a depressed sociopath with a god complex in hospitals on purpose lol
  • @elnationalista
this video appears while thinking maybe if I want to be a neurosurgeon while in med school Me: Thank you CIA and FBI.
  • @hilaahmadian2066
I'm in my last year of hs and have been passionate about neurosurgery since middle school. watching this video made me realise just how hard it is to become a neurosurgeon and to be fair I'm definitely not the smartest but tbh now I'm just even more determined and motivated to study till I drop dead so i can become a neurosurgeon. this video was very helpful thank you
  • You should definitely make a video on, ā€œSo do you want to be an Oncologist?ā€ I think this is a field many people donā€™t talk about however many are interested on it. I would greatly appreciate it. Ps: Great and really informative video, thank you!!!
  • @Msjjangful
Woah, I didnā€™t expect the field to be so male-dominated (lol I shouldā€™ve known). I got to be in the OR during a neurosurgery in undergrad and the surgeon was a female! Which was super awesome! She was so chill and of course super smart!
