  • totally agreed that the install button should be added no make sense have it hided!
  • @Nathan_RM
I get unnaturally excited for Blender Updates
  • Hope the community shows blender some love for listening, it’s starting to feel a bit too entitled
  • @No573N
Also, dragging is a bit tedious and especially if you have one screen. They should make it so you just click on install and it installs. Many websites do this already. You click a link and it asks if you want to open in a certain app.

Can you explain the difference between extensions and addons moving forwards? Are addons just legacy extensions awaiting conversion to the new format or will they still around?
  • @tukakuga
i want to understand how this UI change passed and how the person responsible for it pitched it
  • @klbrolls
This is great. My main concern is that what to do with the add-ons that I have collected. Will they work seamlessly with extensions especially after they have move buttons around. I think the best solution is to have both extension and add-ons UIs for the next few release so that people can take their time to learn how to use extensions, even if under the hood add-ons and extensions will do exactly the same thing. And keep add-ons UI precisely the same as previous releases. Please do not underestimate the difficulty of adapting to new UI especially when you rename things. The problem now is that we are told to use extensions instead of add-ons without a clear explanation on how it will affect the workflow.

This extensions thing is fire bro idc

you could make an add-on, that adds the add-on button back into blender preferences. it would just call the same command as the "install from disk" button.

Can't find nodes preview tool in preferences
  • @NoobHit
Agree for having the install button there, people are too used to that to be gone all in a sudden.
  • @mjdevlog
I don't know why they need to shrink everything into a small downward triangle icon when literally the left part of it is a long search bar. I agree they need to keep the install button separately
  • @PixelVagrant
Everything will make sense if you decide to agree upon whatever is said and done!
  • @jefflhama
My goooood, I'm always excited and worried about blender updates nowadays. It looks like some developers never get what the community is talking about. Just slap the install button and a Goddamn round caps for the curves pleeaaase
  • @hemzabomb
Why fix the normals turning inside out when objects are mirrored? Let's change the interface instead!
  • @fabianogama39
I like the drop down menu better than the previous huge modifiers list, I can now star typing what I need much faster. I also prefer the extension thing, I don't care about how they call it, I just like the idea of just drag and drop and have what I need instantaneously. The problem of old tutorials getting outdated is insignificant, because each Blender student will have this problem just once in their lives and learn how to get around from that moment on. It wouldn't be the first thing that changes over the years and we need to find the updated information for what a particular tutorial is teaching.

I thought it was weird that Themes were its own tab next to extensions, while at the same time being installable via the Extensions tab ... Now, this makes it even more confusing, having Extensions AND Add-ons / Themes. I hope they make up their mind and decide to ditch both Themes and Extensions and rather just keep Extensions BUT with a handy Install... button in top corner. That would be the cleanest design in my mere opinion.
