using tape to cut out images on your Cricut

I had a mat that was not sticky anymore and have had it for about 4 years.  I used your tape idea and it worked beautifully.  TFS.
  • Just to add to your instructions....I've been using 'painter's blue' tape for years on my Cricut mats.  The painters tape doesn't stick too much to your paper so easy to peel it off without damaging your paper.  Agree that you don't need to use music on your videos, but thanks for sharing your idea.
  • This is a great idea!  Thanks!  One thing though, I did find the background music very irritating . . . but a big thanks for sharing this tip!  Hazel x

I have tried this too  out of desperation before I saw your video. It works just fine. Just think about the money saved on mats. I don't know of any reason not to do this all the time. Glad you shared, I thought I was alone.

Thank you so very much!! Super good tips!! As far as the music....I think if someone does not like it they can use there mute button or look at a different video. Thank you again please continue sharing your tips they are very helpful!!

I have tried several different re-positional adhesives to re-stick my mats......none that really work well. they are either too sticky and I cant get the paper or card stock off with out tearing it up. I have found that the awesome spray from the dollar tree works amazingly well to clean the mats, then I have been using the painters tape just as you used the scotch tape, it works really well. It may be a little more costly, but there is no problem getting the tape off, and if you're careful, just stick it on the edge of something, I can use the same tape over & overs again. Painters tape does a great job!!!!!! thanks for the video, I don't know what I would do without all the helpful videos on you tube. thank you, thank you, thank you,

I've done this and it does work! The only time I've had an issue (and I'm a silhouette cameo user btw) is when the smaller pieces you've cut out are not stuck down when the machine is moving cutting another area so they can slide around under another area and get cut or bent but for bigger pieces, I've done this a lot!

💓Music was beautiful!🎼I enjoyed your video and I heard you clearly.😊 Thank you for taking the time to do this for us people who appreciate it.💖 If the music bothered anyone they could have just paused 🙉the video and moved on to the next instead of complaining about it. ✌

I wanted to hear what you were saying but music was totally too loud...please dont use music while trying to talk if you want your videos to be helpful!!
  • @HTMLguruLady2
Great idea. Thanks!!! Love, love, love the background music!!!!

This is a good idea and works well if you are cutting larger cuts, however, I found that if you are cutting intricate patterns like lace or scroll text, the paper needs to be stuck to the mat all over or else the cut pieces start flapping up and getting ripped by the machine as it cuts the rest of the pattern.

Music is fine. I have been doing this for years and works great. But I found the blue tape work as well and that is what I use. Thanks a bunch.

This is such a great idea, I am going to try this in my old original 6 x 12. Thanks so much and ignore the comments on the music. If they didn't like it all they had to do was mute the video. Really no need to be negative with such a good idea..... wonder if they could do any better.

Also, if it hasn't been mentioned before, there is Removable Tape that can be used. Then when you remove the tape, you won't damage or tear your paper in any way.

I have found that Quilting spray works great! I was in a pinch and needed the one mat I own to work right then. I didn't have time to strip all the old sticky residue off, just washed it really good, dried with a hair drier and sprayed with quilting spray stack. It has been used alot now in the last three weeks and still working great. I do recommend doing a very light coating or else it gets really sticky and it can get hard to remove the paper. Happy crafting.
  • The issue I foresee is when your mat no longer has stick to it nothing will hold the negatives in place as the machine finishes cutting. At that point the negative stock will be loose and free throughout the remaining cutting process which in turn will ruin the entire cut. With that said this at best is a temporary fix until you re stick or replace your mat.

For those of us with impaired hearing, please be aware that the music is very difficult or impossible for us to separate from your speech.  I had to mute it and just learn from the video portion alone.  Music and instructional videos really don't belong together.
  • @thewlette
Love that idea - glad you thought of it. Thanks for sharing - I will be trying this for sure. Who doesn't have scotch tape on hand!!!!
  • @Wildtb
