Doctor Doom's appearance in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes has remained a fan favourite moment in the show - despite its brevity. Appearing properly in just two episodes, one of which being a Fantastic Four team up, this version of Doom nevertheless brought the villain's iconic presence to the small screen. Join me as we dive into what made this adaptation work so well!

Doctor Victor Von Doom is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the character made his debut in The Fantastic Four #5. The monarch of the fictional nation Latveria, Doctor Doom has been portrayed as both a supervillain and antihero, and is usually depicted as both the archenemy and ally of the Fantastic Four, though he has come into conflict with other superheroes as well, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Daredevil, the X-Men, and the Avengers.

Doom is basically the Gigachad meme in his debut episode Shows up kidnaps 2 heroes kicks everyone´s ass refuses to elaborate further leaves

Stan lee said it himself. Dr Doom isn’t Evil, he just wants to rule the world. Dr Doom believes the universe needs to change, and more importantly, he believes he’s the only on capable of doing so. Or more accurately, he believes Reed Richards is the only one capable of doing so. He hates and resents Reed, not because he’s smarter then him, but because he’s smarter then him, but refuses to do what needs to be done to better humanity. Thus Doom needs to prove to himself, that he’s better then Reed, so that he can be the one to change the world, since Reed himself won’t do it. Almost every single time doom has won, humanity was better off for it.
  • This Doom had what… five minutes of screentime across two episodes and he’s somehow a better Doom than three-four live-action films. That’s clearly an achievement.
  • I think perhaps the best "compliment" to Doom's character is one comic (whose name escapes me) where Thanos says words to the effect of "Doom is the one Terran I keep under surveillance"
  • The problem with adapting Dr. Doom is that outside of his early writing he is not a straightforward villain. Usually the heroes are only as good as their villains, with Doom you come away knowing none of the heroes are as good as Doom. Which is why this adaptation works, the avengers can't hold a candle to him and he doesn't even care.

NGL, I actually think the MCU should just have a physical actor with an imposing frame who never shows their face play doom in person and just have Lex Lang come back to do the lines a la James Earl Jones did for darth vader

I love how the only thing EMH needed to change about Doom to make him not hammy like the comics. Was just change him from talking "LIKE THIS!" to Talking "like this."

"I was a god, valeria. I found it... Beneath me." Victor Von Doom-

Even without his tech and position as a monarch, he'd still have sorcery and his genius mind to hand. That alone is a reason why he's a top dog in all of Marvel.
  • Not explicitly mentioned: In Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Doom was never beaten! That wouldn't matter is the adaptation hadn't been so good in general, but being a supervillain that goes undefeated in a superhero show puts him on a truly elite level.
  • Doom is fascinating. He's the epitome of a super villain; rich, powerful, political, brilliant, tactical, tech savvy, magical, honestly the list could go on and on, he really brings everything to the table. There's something admirable about him despite the bad guy status. His work ethic is immeasurable for one, and he genuinely does seem to care about his country and its future. Great video and character analysis, as always!

Doom was actually also hinted at in the Very first episode,, where Tony stop an weapons deal between aim and a mysterious buyer, that we later find out is Doom's representative
  • I think something great about EMH Doom that’s not in any other adaptation I can think of, is that he ACTUALLY HAS AN EASTERN EUROPEAN ACCENT. I don’t really know how accurate it is, but it’s at least something because his heritage is something incredibly important to his character that every adaptation has ignored. I haven’t seen Avengers Assemble so Idk if he has it there or not, but this is just something that I noticed.
  • Doom is pretty much the endgame antagonist (protagonist?) of Marvel , the most dangerous of any antogonist in Marvel. Not because he's the strongest or the most powerful there is , but because how there's no limit in his determination , how much of mastermind he is and how finesse his excecution of his master plan. I think Jonathan Hickman version of Doom is my favorite of all time.
  • I like how this Victor still falls into Ben's description of him: He is just using the heroes as pawns to do his homework to conquer the world, to make him victorius without sounding "weak" asking for help in front of Reed and the other brainiacs. Is such a Victor move to do. what I really don't know is how the rest of the yost verse feels about the giant purple robocop chasing mutants flying across new york.

EMH adapts the character so well considering how much depth as well as complexity is in Doom and being able to get the character right while Doom is limited to only so much screen time that alone deserves praise. Also i’m pretty sure that the third season was supposedly going to adapt the Doomquest arc where iron man and Doom get sent back in time to camelot and chaos ensues which is a favorite comic arc of mine and would have been fantastic to see.
  • The only issue I have with this video is you calling Doom arrogant. As defined by the Oxford dictionary arrogant mean "having or revealing an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities". It's not arrogance; Doom just knows his value.
  • After Thanos, Doctor Doom should be MCU next big threat, with the movies building up a adaptation of Secret Wars.
