LEGO Galaxy Explorer is now even more nostalgic

Just when you thought 10497 Galaxy Explorer couldn’t get any more nostalgic, The LEGO Group releases alternate build instructions that heap on even more wistful throwbacks to the golden age of LEGO Space.
The original model is an updated and expanded version of 497 Galaxy Explorer, aka 928 Galaxy Explorer, from 1979. Buuuuut, maybe that’s not the particular Space set that you personally owned – or, your dad owned, if you’re less than half a century old.
If so, these alternate build instructions can turn the new set into an updated version of 924 Transporter, aka 487 Space Cruiser; or 918 Space Transport, aka One Man Space Ship.
These alternate builds are a nice offering for anyone looking to recreate a slightly different piece of LEGO nostalgia, although it does create a slight problem for collectors.
Thanks, The LEGO Group. Now we all have to buy three of this set.

I think it’s a great addition to this great set, wanting to own all three builds together is the lego collectors’s problem
-
They should have included printed 924 and 918 bricks
-
I built all 3 with only 2 copies of the set and some extra parts from my collection.

I ❤ this set in addition to my 1979 Space Lego collection!

Yeah but why aren't their helmets cracked on the chin?

I actually own a hand me down 928/497 but the smallest one actually interested me considering, the small back computer is easy to remove and replace with the little droid, which is a cool star Wars reference and having watched a fair bit of mecha anime a locking cockpit is so cool to me, and it has a really creative shape

I went to Legoland with my parents and sister in about 1986. My parents said I could have a set so I chose the 497 (iirc) but my sister persuaded me it was to expensive so I chose 6929. Still very vivid memories.

mine's on backorder And I ordered replacement heads and visors for the Helmets

I recommend Walmart for this, because they marked down the price for this set to $75 USD ($50 during Black Friday). I bought one myself, but I'm hoping I get at least one for Christmas. I will probably use the spare pieces to help me build Classic Space MOCs. And when CMF Series 24 comes out in 2023, I want to buy some brown Classic Space Astronauts.
