Critically acclaimed Irish actor Andrew Scott has made a significant mark with his diverse roles. He terrified viewers as Moriarty in "Sherlock" and charmed them as the "Hot Priest" in "Fleabag." Now, he's taking on a new challenge in the psychological thriller "Ripley," based on the character from Patricia Highsmith's best-selling novel, "The Talented Mr. Ripley." The eight-part series is available on Netflix starting today. Anthony Mason met up with Scott in New York City to talk about his acting process and delving into the mind of a killer.

Scott is the most exciting actor since ...well...in a very long time!
  • @nikhtose
He's an acting marvel, gaining well-deserved recognition, at least among his piers, and not a few fans like me. But his natural humanity and warmth shine even as he climbs the heights. A rare thing today.

Such a talented lad. He has won that Olivier since this was recorded.

He's an absolute gem of an actor. It was a crime he wasn't in the recent Oscar mix for "All of Us Strangers" - a beautiful, gut punch of a film where he and Mescal were achingly stunning. I adore Andrew. He has a lot of great things ahead of him and I CAN NOT wait to see Ripley and everything else ahead of him.

I love seeing Scott interviewed - he comes across as such an open and generous interviewee!
  • I completely love this actor what a talented charming and honest man. Bravo

One of the best actors of our time! Such an empathetic role model
  • I'm so sorry he lost his Mum as they were very close - its such a loss. He is such a lovely intelligent sensitive articulate guy and talented actor on stage and screen. Good luck to you Andrew. If he wants to do a musical he should work with Jessie Buckley they would be a great combo.

Glad they touched on his other work, including "All of Us Strangers" -- what an incredible film; deserved much more awards season attention. Looking forward to this new version of Ripley!

He crushed it in "Fleabag". What a great role!

Andrew Scott is by far the scariest Tom Ripley among Alain Delon and Matt Damon. Great actor for the role.

What a lovely relaxed interview, bright and knowing and deep. With wonderful clips. Andrew Scott should have been on the Oscar list - but clearly far too good for the Oscar cronyism. Onwards and upwards my favourite actor. (Take no notice; his Hamlet is the best I have ever seen....and I have seen far too many! Find it if you can and be impressed by the modernity of the play and it's relevance)

What a lovely interview, they seemed really relaxed and it was more like a fluid conversation. I’m just in awe with Andrew, what an interesting beautiful person he is. So funny, polite, intelligent, hansom and likeable

Ripley is utterly superb. I usually avoid black and white shows but this was just perfect. I loved all her Ripley books and also the Matt Damon movie but this is just outstanding.

I saw Vanya in the cinema and I'm so glad I did. It's a spectacular performance.
  • @KatrinRuth
Andrew Scott is superb and the cinematography is beautifully filmed, black and white, brings such layers of macabre moodiness. Without doubt the most outstanding series I’ve watched. Dakota is magnificent too.

I get the impression that Andrew makes a great first date. So relaxed and engaging and forthcoming.

A wonderful actor and a delightful, articulate and sensitive human being, with seemingly very little ego for an actor with such success and acknowledgement t. After watching this, I've got a huge crush.
