▬▬▬▬ Information ▬▬▬▬

House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO. A prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019), it is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik served as the showrunners for the first season. Based on parts of Martin's 2018 book Fire & Blood, the series begins about 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms are united by the Targaryen conquest, nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. Featuring an ensemble cast, the show portrays the events leading up to the decline of House Targaryen, a devastating war of succession known as the "Dance of the Dragons".

House of the Dragon received a straight-to-series order in October 2019, with casting beginning in July 2020 and principal photography starting in April 2021 in the United Kingdom. The series premiered on August 21, 2022, with the first season consisting of ten episodes. The series was renewed for a second season five days after its premiere. Sapochnik departed as showrunner after the first season, leaving Condal to serve as the sole showrunner for the second season. The second season premiered on June 16, 2024, with eight episodes. The series was renewed for a third season in June 2024, ahead of the second-season premiere.

Rhaena's plot was so inconsequential that it didn't even come up in this podcast episode. RIP Nettles, the dragon rider who never was

Preston is "off sick" and all of a sudden this business with Venezuela happens. Ok sure.

Leaked script from Battle Over the God's Eye: Daemon: It's over nephew, I have the higher altitude. Aemond: You underestimate the power of my sneak attacks. Daemon: Don't try it.
  • Preston is responsible for every major event. He personally introduced Kamala and Tim Walz.

"It wouldn't be on historical record"...MAESTER ORWYLE took Alicent to Dragonstone, he's literally a historical source. I'm pretty much convinced that the writers have not actually read Fire and Blood at all. Every new interview just compounds my concerns.

I don't like the fact that the show spoiled the God's Eye. That was supposed to be an epic moment and showdown, and now everyone knows that both Aemond and Daemon die, which takes away the suspense (Alys tells Daemon he will die, and Helaena tells Aemond he will also die). Plus, the fact that both Rhaenyra and Alicent think that Aegon would be the only one to die is stupid. Rhaenyra would need to kill Aemond simply because he killed Luke, and both he and Daeron are significant threats to her no matter what happens. To think that nothing would happen to Helaena and her daughter is also foolish since the female claim would be recognized as legitimate. Additionally, Otto would need to be tried for treason since he was the mastermind behind it all. All of the Greens would need to die. So what kind of peace and freedom does Alicent think she would have???

That’s absolutely insane that the writers aren’t even communicating with the actors, directors, etc.

podcast episodes like these are great because I love me some preston ranting but also highlight why these two are the best duo covering asoiaf; carmine keeps the conversation moving along nicely while trying to be fair and preston is our george expert who can throw in some grrm introspective on the material and why it doesnt work. great ep so far boys.

it almost feels like Addam and Alan's personalities were switched from book to show

I disagree that Cole was ruined, imo he was the only character whose arc from season 1 carried on naturally in season 2. His ego, bitterness, and impulsiveness are all still present in the early episodes. Rook’s Rest and dragon fire shatter his world view and force him to reevaluate his priorities. This culminates in him accepting his insignificance and dedicating his life to what he cares about most, protecting the woman he loves. Honestly I’m shocked Cristin wasn’t destroyed since most of the fandom seems to despise him.

Calling it now: Otto Hightower was kidnapped by House Beesbury during the little civil war they're having with the Hightowers that they keep mentioning as side conversations but never dwell on. If I were to guess, this either leads to one of two things: he either becomes a POV character at Tumbleton during the battles OR he is smuggled off as a bargaining chip to get Dalton Greyjoy, another oft-mentioned side conversation topic, to enter the war on Rhaenyra's behalf. Otto dies in the book shortly after Rhaenyra takes King's Landing and I'm guessing they just really like the actor and don't want to lose him so they're gonna do something a bit more interesting than "he was hanged as a traitor" and moving on. Unless Larys Strong kidnapped him himself and was holding him hostage as revenge against Alicent and/or as a bargaining chip to win Rhaenyra's favor, him being a pro-Green POV at either Tumbleton or in the Greyjoy camp would be a good writing decision.
  • @YourBlackLocal
I actually think they over-plan, and that’s why episodes are so unrelated. Because they can’t risk diverting from their planned plot points, and have to ignore whatever details are in the episodes.
  • 33:06 I imagine if Ryan and Sara adapted the ASoIaF books, they would have had Jon meeting Ned and Rob before each one was killed because the fans wanted to see it.
  • Full agreement with Preston. Professional writers shouldn't be failing this badly. I've read better fan fiction.
  • Dunno if you guys are gonna touch on this (halfway through), but one thing of note... Alicent surrenders. Helaena sends Daemon visions and doesn't help. Who even is left on team green? Alicent is the green in team green... team green is a pointless fucking mess because the writers clearly hate them and want everyone to side with the blacks. Turning Alicent traitor was the dumbest thing in a season that had a lot of dumb things.

Darcy is so wooden, that even her lesbian scene falls flat 😅
  • 26:44 Not the Night King, all part of Bran's masterplan to decimate House Targ and seize the throne. 😂
