Just as we were setting up for sundown drinks on a lookout platform, the Sable run towards the waterhole followed closely by a pack of painted wild dogs. Exciting footage from Hwange national park / Camp Davisons concession. Thanks to our guide, Douglas "The Man"...
Video taken on Galaxy S7 hence "pixellation" when viewed on bigger screen... sorry!

  • You know you're watching a seriously intimidating animal when the pack of dogs decide to see if a HIPPOPOTAMUS might be a less daunting prospect.

What a majestic creature is the Sable antelope!

Alternate title, "Painted wild dogs timidly follow a Sable antelope".

Attack is a strong word. Walking by is more appropriate
  • The hippo didn't even bother turning around. He's like don't be ridiculous little dudes.
  • Wow. I am a big antelope fan now. How the attacker had to retreat before a stubborn and defiant opponent is really special.

At 4:45, the lead dog stops, looks at the Hippo, and says to the followers, "what about this one?" The others respond, "he's all yours."

it's amazing the way they call off the hunt and nonchalantly walk past the antelope.
  • I love how they began to stalk the hippo after the sable. Like, do you expect that to be easier? ЁЯШВ

Damn I never seen an antelope that aggressive against a pack of wild dogs. That standing stance against predators will be passed to their generation.

The Sable antelope stood his ground and lived!

Wild dogs are very smart. He gives up neatly without risking injury. That's why wild dog groups have strong viability.

Hippo did not even consider the dogs enough of a threat to even stop grazing and turn around !

The unity portrayed by these dogs usually impresses me,,
