Just as we were setting up for sundown drinks on a lookout platform, the Sable run towards the waterhole followed closely by a pack of painted wild dogs. Exciting footage from Hwange national park / Camp Davisons concession. Thanks to our guide, Douglas "The Man"...
Video taken on Galaxy S7 hence "pixellation" when viewed on bigger screen... sorry!

  • You know you're watching a seriously intimidating animal when the pack of dogs decide to see if a HIPPOPOTAMUS might be a less daunting prospect.

What a majestic creature is the Sable antelope!
  • Alternate title, "Painted wild dogs timidly follow a Sable antelope".
  • At 4:45, the lead dog stops, looks at the Hippo, and says to the followers, "what about this one?" The others respond, "he's all yours."
  • The hippo didn't even bother turning around. He's like don't be ridiculous little dudes.
  • Attack is a strong word. Walking by is more appropriate

Sable antelope are not easy prey..they are extremely aggressive.
  • The antelope dug in like a soldier in the trenches What an act of bravery
  • Wow. I am a big antelope fan now. How the attacker had to retreat before a stubborn and defiant opponent is really special.

Damn I never seen an antelope that aggressive against a pack of wild dogs. That standing stance against predators will be passed to their generation.

Wild dogs are very smart. He gives up neatly without risking injury. That's why wild dog groups have strong viability.
  • Those dogs was just investigating if they really wanted to attack that they would have
  • I love how they began to stalk the hippo after the sable. Like, do you expect that to be easier? 😂
  • Hippo did not even consider the dogs enough of a threat to even stop grazing and turn around !
  • The Sable antelope stood his ground and lived!
