Bruno Mars is a great example of a male performer who cares and puts in the work. Charisma, personality, vocals and mooooves!!!!!!!
  • Women literally have to do it all. Sing/rap while looking great; dance and some do while performing while they are visibly pregnant. Som guys look like they roll out bed; hopefully brush their teeth and walk back and forth across the stage . I am Not talking artist like Usher, CB, or Bruno Mars cuz they bring it.
  • As a Kpop stan, I realize how much I was spoiled when it comes to performance cause there was no Kpop concert where I was bored while the celeb just walked back an forth and doing the bare minimum. When it comes to tours and concerts Kpop goes HARD. Huge performances, tons of back up dancers, crazy choreography, great stage probs, fireworks, VCRs ect. There's never a dull moment. You can hate kpop, you can love it or just not interested in it but you can't deny Kpop always slays when it comes to performance.

I agree the women , in general work harder for the money and some deal with most of the drama if they’re too sexy or not sexy enough.

Tyler the Creator is another really great example for the hip hop men. Not only does he dance in his performances, have costume changes sometimes between his album characters, and have amazing stage presence, but just with him being a producer too, he’ll play alternative intros for some of his songs too. His crowd engagement is also really amazing (and funny as hell a lot of the time 😂) Tyler is for sure up there with the best of the current rappers as far as putting on a show, especially when he headlines.
  • One other artist who I would include as a performer recently was Sza on her SOS Tour where she so many theatrics and whether ppl think she cant sing or not she still had that mic on and gave costume changes, choreography, theatrics etc and is truly a hardworker of her craft regardless of how long she takes to drop music (which isnt in her control most if the time) she is undeniably a performer!

it's criminal that you didn't mention DUA LIPA. She's been stepping it up since the pencil sharpener incident. AMAZING visuals and choreography!

    Missy Elliott performances are otherworldly

Kendrick Lamar should also be mentioned in this conversation. His performances are art. He made such tremendous improvements in a short time. If you compare his early performances from around 2013, to his 2016 Grammy performance you can see how much he developed. His 2016 Grammy performance is easily one of my favorite Grammy performances of all time tbh.
  • Love the classic footage. You really explained the bridge of change in the music industry when it comes to music performance. If you pay big bucks you should get a big performance. It doesn’t have to be all about dance but give it your all. Whitney Houston didn’t have to dance her butt off because she sanggggg! Her voice and emotion and costumes were enough. Some sing and have to dance to present and that’s great. But there has to be emotion and energy. Half stepping deserves half pricing.

I saw Lil Nas X last year and he was amazing! It was a proper pop performance, full stage show with backup dancers and multiple costume changes, but that mic was ON!
  • Best concerts I've been to have been BTS and Beyonce. Every penny I've spent was always worth it because you could see the amount of dedication into their art. And there's nothing more I love to see than a passionate artist on stage...it elevates the entire performance. To me they're the bar. And considering how expensive concert tickets are these days, some artists need to step it up.

Out of the male performers I’ve seen in the past couple of years, The Weeknd and Harry Styles put on some good shows. Harry Styles had huge energy, engaged the crowd, and played the guitar while The Weeknd used both visuals and vocals to produce an unforgettable show.

One mistake that I’ve made in the past as a Beyoncé Stan, was comparing people to her style of performing…also because she’s the Bar. BUT I’ve learned to value the different styles of performers. Especially because lately, I’ve been feeling like people don’t ALWAYS have to perform the same way and can still be good. I think that’s why, even rappers, they’re entertaining to people, because there are different styles of performing.

People hate KPop, I was one, BUT they do perform and after I learned what they have to go through - dance and singing lessons, working out (singing while running on a treadmill), they do this for years before they "debut" to the public. I have new found respect for them. Yes BTS write and produce ALL their songs. Not sure about other Kpop. But ALL have to produce a show for their audience and just can't walk around.

So glad you mentioned doja cat. When I saw her in concert I was in complete awe. She’s an AMAZING performer. So fun and captivating. I cant even begin to explain how amazing she was.

Loved Offset‘s performance for real. It’s a good example of how you can be a rapper, have a chill and laid back persona (which is pretty usual for rappers) but still kill a performance and deliver.
  • @gianab
I real live didn’t know Offset had a performing arts background. Now it makes so much sense with his presence along with him being in movies and tv shows.

I saw Kendrick Lamar in concert in 2022 with my boyfriend and never listened to him before and I can say he put on a performance one of my favorite concerts. He played piano, Ventriloquistism and had dancers and I was really pleasantly surprised !!
  • @courtneysocutec
Tyler the creator! He’s one of if not the best male rap performers of our generation
