Using The New Blender 3.2 Sculpt Paint!

By the time I finished this sculpt based on Tooth Wu's concept, Blender 3.2 was released a few days after.

The release was just right in time as the release included the newly improvised Sculpt Paint & Smear tools which allowed me to poly paint directly & naturally into the model with ease and better brush controls. (No retopo and UV layout needed!) :-)

I found that you can learn it immediately as they're simple to use. You just need to be patient in adjusting the controls at first to find the right mix for your brush strokes.

This is the direct equivalent of the poly painting tools in Zbrush. I adapted the painting method I learned from Bobby Chiu where he blocks in the shadows first then gradually transitions to mid tones, and highlights.

I spent most of my time adjusting the Strength, Flow, Density, Wet Mix, Density, and, Tip Roundness.

Very cool result!!! by the way you can toggle between objects by alt+q in sculpt mode

got here from the sculpting vid. i'm loving the new paint feature as well, and great job translating it into 3D! :)

Very cool. I particularly like that you can create several attribute maps and connect them to all the channels to very quickly switch between them here in order to paint glossiness, specularity, roughness etc

at the beginning, i think you can just change one object to the paint material. select all of them and then the object with paint material on last. and then ctrl + L > link materials

Awesome it just like live coloring ! Did not it was possible.
  • @Edgar Allan Yee: might be a good idea to show the topology you use at least once, since it's all based on the vertice-count.. and not once do we see the wireframe in this video.

excellent work but how does the paint brush in sculpt mode differ from good ol' fashioned vertex painting?

Hi! Does it work for retopology? With multires/subsurface subdivide on?
  • @TTBrothers_
Hi Nice video! Thanks Only one question: is this retopo model or you pain just after sculpt with huge amount of polyogns?
  • @rmumof
Hi,Is there a way to layer using nodes? I checked it, but it doesn't seem to be there so far.
  • @mohamedab9033
Is it getting closer to substance painter level of ease??
  • Très sympa :) pour mettre le même material partout tu peux tout sélectionner et utiliser le raccourci L et link material Pour la couleur, elle reste en object mode ou il faut ajouter un texture image dans le node editor?
  • is this saved to a image like texture painting or is it more like the vertex painting, great job btw!
  • @agustin_honnun
Hey amazing! Do you know if this tool works to export ID map to substance painter? I mean the same if I use vertex paint but using sculpt paint? Then In substance painter, using the sculpture with that painting, bake ID map using it? Thank you :D Edit: Tested it, and didn't work :(

I saw that you stated that this had a high poly count. What’s the poly count on the model if you don’t mind me asking?
