Thank you to Helix for sponsoring! Visit helixsleep.com/lockstin to get up to $200 off your Helix mattress, plus two free pillows! They are very soft, like slugs, but in a good way.

Pokemon BDSP is here! That's Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and Pokemon Legends Arceus isn't too far around the corner. That means now is the perfect opportunity for me to explain the design origins and inspirations for EVERY Pokemon introduced in Generation 4! Every Sinnoh Pokemon! No Hisuian Pokemon though, they are probably all extinct by the time Hisui is renamed Sinnoh...

Visit helixsleep.com/lockstin to get up to $200 off your Helix mattress, plus two free pillows! I bet Omastar is their favorite Pokemon. And Cresselia is their favorite gen 4 pokemon, it just makes sense. More sense than like... Grotle... or something... Big thanks again. Sponsors like them help us make BIG videos like this one. This took about 2 months.... I need sleep.... Thankfully I have a great mattress. ;)
  • Fun fact about Empoleon: it is as tall as the man it is based on, Napoleon (1,70 m), most people think that the French emperor was short in size, where in actuality, he was as tall as a modern average French man.
  • @Gnoggin
For the next 4 months or so, we're going to have a load of Sinnoh related videos. Currently working on dedicated videos for: Lucario, Luxray, Drifloon, Honchkrow, Froslass, and of course the legendaries that we don't already have videos for.
  • @lennyboy1998
I also like that Dialga's, Palkia's and Giratina's face kind of resembles Arceus' face. Which is logical since Arceus made them
  • @Sungura_Kaiser
The Shinx line being mistaken for lions has gotta be the biggest misconception since the Paras line (cicada nymphs) being mistaken for crabs.
  • fun fact: the word "lynx" is derived from a root word meaning "light", which explains the Luxray line's whole connection to light and shine and electricity and x-ray
  • 52:32 I've always thought of Giratina as a caretaker of the Distortion World-- helping keep balance between the two worlds, preventing meeting of matter and antimatter as he's the best guy to go between and makes sure neither world damages the other by major distortions on one side Err... this job he still took up after being a punishment by the way, due to his antimatter gifts
  • @Jesse-ej6jo
Holup! Spiritomb is "bound to a fissure in a keystone", "as punishment for misdeeds 500 years ago". And it was first found here in Sinnoh, which used to be Hisui.. how long ago does Legends Arceus take place? I doubt they'd ever do any kind of a connection like that, that would be way too interesting of them.
  • @mjvdg4194
Just an idea; Roserade’s poison could also be an allusion to the masquerade assassin trope
  • @dinonadoop
One note about Rampardos is that Dracorex is actually widely accepted to be a juvenile form of Pachycephalosaurus nowadays, which ironically makes Cranidos an adult and Rampardos a baby in inspiration
  • @dragonsurge1096
You could consider the Croagunk line to be based on trope 'Touch of Death' in fantastical depictions of martial arts, pressure points and that kind of stuff, linking to its fighting type and it preferred method of poison delivery
  • @reader7777
I like to think heatran represents the earth as it was just bursting with lava and magma forming together to make our planet. Plus it would kind of go together with the whole ancient vibe the legendary pokemon were doing this generation.
  • @Coconut_Prrson
I always thought it was the new gens that decided to add the "complex and specific" designs but turns out its just lockstin who can make even Rattata sound like a carefully thought and structured pokemon
  • I think Honcrow's red tail is supposed to be a reference to a bouquet of roses. Roses can have multiple meanings here, from a rose being a symbol of secrecy to a calling card after a murder to left as a sign of respect after said murder. I swear the rose meaning used to be on the bulbapedia article but has since been removed, it certainly looks more like a bouquet of roses more than a broom.
  • 48:54 This is the first time I've heard a very great reason for the Water-typing correlating to Space for Palkia!!
  • @Mr_Ozone
A little tidbit about the Garchomp line is that it's head "horns" not only resemble side mounted engines but also auxiliary fuel tanks mounted on wing tips, like on the F-84 for example.
  • @J75Pootle
Can I just say i massively appreciate the little messages at the very end of every video now. They always make me smile and I definitely look forward to them even though they seem like a small thing. Whoever on the Lockstin team is responsible for them - thank you!
  • @Lin2Waterfall
"The Chansey line is essentially Motherhood The Pokemon" I now want a video all about the Chansey line.
  • @giboit.
I loved this video. I can tell that this was a lot of work. It would be cool to see one fully dedicated to the baby pokemon (I think that bonsly may also have inspiration from a baby rattle toy).
