Seeing ASEAN countries having exercises together is a very encouraging sight. Heartwarming.

I think it's time for the ASEAN to build a solid defense force just in case the worst scenario happens. If not possible, I think the Philippines and Indonesia could work close together to counter China. Remember, China is also claiming the Natuna Islands and the sea around it which absolutely belongs to Indonesia.
  • Stronger together ASEAN 🇸🇬🇮🇩🇹🇭🇲🇾🇵🇭🇻🇳🇧🇳👏👏👏👏👏💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🫡🫡🫡

As Indonesian, I agree with what the analyst said about ASEAN unity and how the exercise is .. not sending a more powerful message.

The US has a saying, "Speak softly and carry a big stick." By conducting a peaceful military exercise (e.g. coordination, communication, search and rescue, humanitarian aid, etc.), China cannot object since it was outwardly not aimed at them and focused on peaceful exercises. However, it did send a quiet message that these samll countries can unite and can easily close the Strait of Malacca to China.

even though we have claims the SEA community shared it even the fishermen traded catch with other SEA nations until china came claiming that they own everything like wtf???

Philippine , Brunei, malaysia, Indonesia need to be together strong military

If ASEAN holds a joint military exerise it's a good sign for interregional unity, however don't expect too much on that front. ASEAN is a trade alliance, it was not conceived as a military alliance, nor does it have ambitions to unify and federalize like the EU.

Well said Richard. "Not making a choice is a choice of itself". You can't be timid for not making a clear choice as a cohesive alliance to create an effective one when the conflict breaks out. They need to create something like NATO.

Seeing all those Flags aligned together makes me feel secured, that we as ASIANS, are all united. Same blood, same origins whatever they say... we are all brothers.
  • It is right and just that the ASEAN countries come together, work together and protect their patrimony including the seas around them from China and other hegemonic powers. The South China Seas belong to the South East Asian countries. South East Asian countries must progress economically and militarily in order to control and police this area. South East Asian countries must benefit from this area. They must learn to collaborate and work together .

Love to see these countries are working together to fend off the bully
  • For Indonesia to have to move the exercise within its own EEZ says it all about how aggressive China is when it comes to their bogus 9 dashed lines claim.
  • @thaihoang3053
Small countrys need to be unite...to fight against aggressive china...
