This is my video and not monetized. You should NOT be seeing ads. In this demonstration, I am weaving a Saori style art piece on a Kromski Rigid Heddle loom. The warp is #10 crochet cotton - roughly half is a variegated yarn and the other half is black. The clasped weft technique allows for making interesting patterns in the weaving without the use of pickup sticks or the need for extra shafts on the loom.
Using yarn and fabric inclusions in the body of the weaving adds extra interest and excitement to the woven fabric.
I later made this fabric into a vest. You can see it at blog.geneblack.com/2014/03/sewing-it-up.html

I am in awe of all your talents. You are such an inspiration to me, Gene. God bless you.
  • Oh! I loved every second of this! When I got my floor loom my intention was to weave pieces like this and, now, I'll know how. I am getting a rigid heddle for traveling in our trailer. I became homesick for my loom and am in hopes this will help appease me in the weeks away from home. Thank you. Your scarf is exceptionally beautiful.

This was so incredibly useful. I'm learning on my own through tutorials and craftsy; I can't wait to try this technique with my hand-me-down loom!

What a beautiful work of art, thank you for showing me how versatile weaving can be. It is truly only limited by your imagination. I can't wait to try the technique of adding different types of fiber to what is woven. You are a true artist and I look forward to creating my own, one of a kind, work of art. Something I only dreamed about doing since my view of art was limited to painting or drawing both I have zero talent for. With this one video, you have opened up my world to a whole new way of being artistic and creative. More amazing still, it is something that is tactile and can be experienced with not only your eyes but through touch. Used even, that is a true gift. Thank you so very much, for sharing this artistic gift with everyone.

  • Hi Gene, just ordered a rigid heddle loom and after watching your video I am very excited to try out your techniques. Thank you so much for a very informative video and can only hope that one day I can create something as beautiful as you have. Never have tried weaving and I know this will be a fantastic adventure. Thanks again.

That looks like so much fun! After I finish the scarf on my rigid heddle, I am going to try this technique. I use clasped weft in tapestry but never for this sort of piece. Very inspiring!
  • @LibellulaGlass
Great instruction, thanks. I am a spinner about to get into wild weaving. Amazing technique.
