This video is for anyone who wants to upgrade their condenser microphone, or simply needs to swap out the capsule. Filmed in 4K (UHD).

For well under two-hundred dollars, I was able to upgrade my BlueBird condenser microphone to make it sound comparable to microphones that cost several times more.

You can get the RK-47 here...
microphone-parts.com/products/rk47-microphone-caps…

Annotated Correction : DO NOT REMOVE OLD WIRES FROM CAPSULE IF YOU CAN AVOID IT! Cut them instead. This will make it so you can use the old capsule on other projects later down the road.

(a couple of weeks after the swap)
I will say that although I prefer the lows on the Blue, the noise has dropped drastically since the change to the RK-47. It has a flatter frequency response, and seems to clip a lot less. If you prefer the Bluebird capsule, you know how to change it back :)

Always be safe when working with electronics. Having a partner is a great idea when working with equipment like this.

  • I have replace both my mics with new capsules. I am very satisfied. It was simple to do. I never noticed how harsh my highs were until I replaced the capsule with a new one. Great video.

I am pretty overzealous in trusting that I can complete a project with just knowing what tools I need, and this video did NOT help that lol! Now I feel, with your instructions, I could complete this. Thank you for the detail and also feedback on what you may have done differently!

It really is personal preference, especially in regard to the capsule in the Bluebird. I've built a few tube microphones with the CK12 style capsule and they really are phenomenal. The RK47 definitely makes it into a workhorse mic. Very versatile.
  • I'm trying to look for a before video, to compare the before/after...would have liked to hear that.
  • hi maestro, have you knowlege on the functionnality of the c414 àkg grill and put in the🎉 ground ?

I'm interested in upgrading / fitting a new capsule in my Blue Yeti Classic mic. Its got a three way aray of capsules but I'm only interested in cardioid patten for voice overs. Any suggestions for this swap? Its a super popular microphone so I think this might also be a good candidate for a video. Thanks in advance 😎😎
  • Can you tell me why condenser mics become defective? I have seen some with obvious deposits on them but other still look brand new.

Thx for these emotional brilliant minutes of technique - And Great Sounding Music!
  • Good video, dude. My only criticism would be about not disconnecting the wires from the capsule itself, but you already mentioned not to do that yourself. Also wear gloves to prevent finger prints. The rest was great. Awesome job!
  • Great work! One question... I have an almost damaged blue blueberry capsule...Should I search for the original capsule or take one like the one in thw video? What your opinion? Tnx anyway
  • hello! sorry for my english i`m a foreigner. what if i want to upgrade neumann tlm 102 (which is a sweet mic but with airy highs). does this make any sense to take a headbasket of nt2a (more softer on highs) and put it on tlm 102? will this make an effect just to change headbasket and not to touch the capsule?
