This is the first of several videos I made years ago that I felt deserved an update (since two generations have started since the last one). If there are other older videos of mine you'd like to see get an update, comment them!
  • I hate how people always downplay the trade-holding-an-item evolutions. They’re absolutely infuriating and are very limiting for those who play by themselves or don’t have an extra copy to trade with, so I’m glad he pointed it out here!
  • I always feel like I'm in the minority that preferred the beauty stat method of evolving feebas over simply trading with the hold item, simply because I prefer to be able to evolve a pokemon on my own and not have to either hunt someone down to get them to trade with me or have to pull out another cartridge and system.

For basculegion, the required 294 damage was actually related to the idea that some of the basculins died during their trip to the upper section of the river and turned into souls with hatred that surround the evolved ones. In oldish Japanese, 294 ( ni-ku-shi ) and "hatred" have the same sounds.
  • I think that the linking cable item from PLA should be a mainstay at this point in the series, so that you don’t necessarily have to trade something like a haunter for gengar, all you need to do is use the item. Keeping the trade option is nice, but having the cable item is also good.
  • Fun Fact: Gimmighoul is the 999th Pokémon and after collecting 999 coins, it becomes the 1000th Pokémon: Gholdengo. One thing I like about it’s design is that it’s hair has 1 bent and 3 standing, which I believe is the representation of the number 1000.

Just wanted to point out for farfetch’d, air cutter is a high crit chance move that it learns at 25. So give it a leek and air cutter is a guaranteed crit
  • @MegaFan2525
Imagine trying to figure out these newer evolution without the internet

I wanted to use a Palafin on my Violet team, but when I saw it’s evolution method required connecting through the Union Circle I was like “nope nevermind lmao” I ended up catching one in a five star raid 🤣

3:26 fun fact, in my first shield play through I got a Galatians yamask expecting it to evolve by level up so I didn’t google it, I did it on accident and I had to google why my yamask randomly evolved when I was just walking

Pro tip for Milotic: In Platinum version, you can buy poffins in the basement of the department store. These can increase the beauty stat enough to evolve.

19:17 One note. In LA you have to do this quest to encounter the first Spiritomb, but after that they start spawning in the wild and you can catch as many as you like.

I got a Milotic in my Emerald playthrough. While you can’t make pokeblocks until right before the 7th gym, the sheen was not the problem. Aside from just finding Feebas, one big problem is that physical copies can have its battery run dry, so there was a fixed number of berries to work with for the evolution.

Hitmontop's evo requirement should have been higher speed stat. That way you have all the hitmons specializing in one of the stats.
  • For Ursaluna, you can also just go to your bag each night and see if the Peat Rock is compatible with Ursaring or not
  • @Universexy1
Definitely the trade gimmick for me. Luckily sword had a wild one walking around but I think they still kept the trade gimmick for its previous evolve

The rage fist isn't actually as bad as you do it. If you just face a normal type, you don't have to encounter a new pokemon nor have to wait on the animation. So you can just spam rage fist, maybe use an elixer to get back another 10 pp and there you go: it now evolves into annihilape. You don't need to KO and wait on the animation for like 20 pokemon

Ever since Hydreigon was introduced I've been training a Deino up to evolve into a Hydreigon in every possible gen. Obviously after finishing the main story, I'm not that crazy
  • @lqnreki
Probably one thing I like about Sword and Shield is how trade evolutions can be easily obtainable via over-world encounters. It was honestly a life-saver since literally NONE of my friends play Pokémon (though the trading thing is still annoying if the pokemon I need to have in order to fill the dex is a version exclusive like Galarian Ponyta or Goodra since I have Sword)
  • Note: Hyper training is in gen 9, and now only requires a pokemon to be level 50 or above. Doesn't make the tyrogue evolution less annoying but is still a very good thing to know.
