(They sent me the yoke in exchange for this video.)

Showcasing my favorite flight sim controls for Microsoft Flight Simulator in 2024. Taking the Cessna Citation 700 Longitude directly into Hurricane Beryl, a Category 5 storm in the Caribbean. RIP to all multiplayer souls lost.

“The storm, it’s virtual, it’s not gonna kill your plane, stay with the pattern”
  • Retired AF Hurricane Hunter (weather officer) here, with flights into at least 3 cat 5's and a whole lot of cat 3s and 4s in my logbook. In most eyewalls the rain is so intense you have no visibility out the windshield, and at times you can hear the rain pelting the skin over the roar of four turboprops despite wearing noise-canceling headsets. It literally wears the paint off of the prop spinners and the leading edges of the external fuel tanks. Turbulence sometimes isn't as bad as you might think. But if you've ever seen a dog pick up a chew toy and shake it at ridiculous speed, there were times where the hurricane was the dog and our plane was the chew toy. We were shaking so violently that my eyeballs could not focus on the instruments until the storm decided to give the plane back to us to fly. Standard aircraft radars are weather avoidance radars, with colors ranging from green to yellow to orange to red. When the Air Force took delivery of the WC-130Js back in the early 2000s, they had to tell Lockheed they needed a weather penetration radar. We've got four different shades of red, from "ok, you can go there if you have to" to "NO !$%@#^%@#! - DON'T GO ***THERE***!!!!"
  • "this is mildly terrifying" The man says while pitched completely over in a Cat 5 hurricane
  • 11:48 "Ladies and gentlemen, from the flight deck, this is your captain speaking, you really should have taken a boat..."
  • @maximoose2775
Just a little protip to help you take off; it really helps if you stay on the runway in a straight line. Best of luck!

Is this the closest we get to an FSX level of madness in a long time? That departure is insane.
  • I do personally love your more serious videos here the last couple years But we needed this

Preflight checklist: Possessed yoke☑ Coolest Xbox turkey stick☑ "Thrustmaster" (giggity) throttle ☑ Foot rest ☑ - (we will be fingering the "Thrustmaster" for this flight) Emotional support AK-47 (for duck hunting) ☑ The throne (that fell off a real Boeing airplane, with real fart muffler cushions) ☑ We are ready for space flight, rocket man o7
  • @FSMadness
I'm scared for your glass desk with that force feed back xD

Retired NOAA WP-3D pilot here. Great job on the penetration! As others have said, normally Gonzo stays in the outer reaches of a storm collecting steering data but I'm sure someone would love to give the eyewall a shot. Would love to see part 2 with the Orion. To make it realistic, you'll have to stay in the sim for 9 hours, drink 3 pots of crappy coffee and randomly have a scientist or grad student walk up and puke right behind you.
  • @Karmag555
7:25 You missed the best part, with that Darkstar deorbiting at something like 1,000+ vertical feet per second going straight down. Dude just came back from the ISS.
  • Your quick descent to see water was really a SAR attempt for the Twin Otter that went down @7:10
  • Typically NOAA's G-IV aircraft would be used the create a picture of what the upper atmosphere above/around the tropical system to forecast where the storm might go, rate of intensification, and or speed. the aircraft with the task of gathering information from inside the tropical system would usually be NOAA's WP-3D Orion aircraft that drops dropsondes into different parts of the system to gather surface data, there's also a fleet of upgraded USAF C-130's known as WC-130j's (C-130j weatherbird) stationed in Keesler AFB in Mississippi that also drop dropsondes into different parts of the hurricane to gather data on the system. Yes i know you might be thinking i'm a nerd but when i get older i am considering joining the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron and being a "hurricane hunter" myself so that's why i know all this. Hope it helps!
  • @Kilosim
Ok that AK-47 is the most Florida Man thing ever
  • @JB-tj9mm
You entering the hurricane 8:20 reminded me Captain Kirk flying into the Mutara Nebula in the Wrath of Khan
  • @Glenn_Wackett
Vin Diesel would be impressed with those powerslides on takeoff
