that's actually impressive tbf props to the writer
  • @livtupi
I learned that the letter E is the most used in English intuitively while making friendship bracelets šŸ˜…
  • @melsyoutube
14:34 ā€œovid did what ovid undErstoodā€ ARIANA WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!????!!?!!?!!
  • @PJ-Creativity
You could also say that because Ovidā€™s story ended up exactly where it started, Ovidā€™s story is null and void.
  • @Elizabeth-lv3vh
Tom Nook also doesn't have any E's... coincidence?! I think not!
  • @ilveroleolix
Just below your underlined section at 14:29, the author writes the word "undErstood" šŸ„“

ā€œThe authorā€™s name is phong guyan!ā€ Well, Iā€™ve heard many pronunciations but thats a new one!
  • PLEASE read Sphynx by Anne Garrettaā€”itā€™s this same concept, except it doesnā€™t use any gendered pronouns, so you have no idea if the main characters are male or female or in between. Itā€™s especially impressive considering the novel was originally written in French (a gendered language)!!
  • @allison-paige
Imagine if Phong Nguyen next book only uses words with the letter e
  • @mrlnxf8455
i think it's crazy phong could publish a full book without using that symbol. this is actually so hard ā€“ just within this short paragraph i'm kind of struggling! i couldn't focus on a story this way, as i would focus so much on this missing symbol... so fascinating though! thank you so much for showing us this unusual work, what a fun video!
  • @carojr8393
That someone would be able to translate La Disparition in English complying with the E omission is crazy lol
  • i once wrote a poem which omitted I, O and U and it was so difficult so i cannot imagine a WHOLE NOVEL
  • @finreads
jack being friends with Mina is literally so amazingā€¦.my worlds are colliding
  • @kiiturii
"this book doesn't have the letter e" this guy the whole video: "wow there's no letter e"
  • @CatianaKeys
This ABSOLUTELY needs a part two!!!! Read all the other lipogram books you talked about. Such an interesting topic.

I LOVE Ella Minnow Pea! Every single person I know who has read it has been blown away by it (including me). Very highly recommend it!

The letter "E" is important for code breaking. If you do a frequency analysis on a substitution cipher, it is easy to figure out what symbols are used as code for the letter "E." This is simple code breaking, but it's best to start with the fundamentals. These books, that omit the letter "E", always remind codebreakers to expect the unexpected when people really want to keep secrets hidden.

If I had to take a wild guess, based off the title alone, the book doesn't simply just "th whit dog was slping" Instead, it takes a "Roundabout" way of saying the same sentence, which normally isn't needed. Therefore, that's the title.
