Humanity: Many desire success. Reality: Not all achieve it. Why? Because of one fundamental element of success: FAILURE. What does that mean to me?

Eduardo Zanatta is a senior studying business finance at BYU. He is an Italian citizen, grew up in Brazil, and served as a missionary in New Jersey. He has worked for The Academy for Creating Enterprise as its international development coordinator for two years and interned at the ACE campus in Mexico City last summer. Zanatta has also completed internships at the UK Parliament, Credit Suisse UK, and Goldman Sachs NY and is now a part-time employee at Innosight, LLC. He recently accepted a full-time offer from Innosight, LLC, in Boston and will be attending the Harvard Business School in 2014.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Don't quit too early, obstacles are testing your character

I needed this speech... after hitting rock bottom I will rethink my approach and go at it again
  • I failed before in my life. I can relate to this. I failed a test once in my Math class in high school. Sometime later, I got better at Math in high school. I went from an F to an A eventually. It's all about the mindset, failure is an opportunity to learn and grow from your mistakes. Not to give up and convince yourself it's just not meant to be. For now on, whenever I fail in life, I see failure as a teachable moment. To improve my quality of life.

I had zero motivation during online school. I basically lost a semester. Got only half of my work done and I feel awful. But now I am so pumped to do better. I can’t ever get the lost time back but I believe I can look back at it and tell myself: «never again.»
  • I've failed more this year than in any other year. It's been hard. I've lost so much but at the same time gained so much and learnt so much about myself. I've been an emotional yo yo. Elated one minute. Rock bottom the next. But it's strangely been the best year of my life just because I have learnt so much..

I think failure in the arts is especially painful, as it is such a ‘no guarantee’ vocation already. But the ‘not quitting too early’ idea is really about doing it because you love it, and unless we enjoy the process then we are already setting ourselves up for disappointment.

Thanks. Love the quote "The only the thing that keeps us from getting what we want, is the story we keep telling ourselves on why we can't have it."
  • @TyberiusOSU
Yeah I need to get over my fear. Fear is the mind killer!
  • this really lifted me up thank you. I haven't failed yet, and of course no one plans to. I'm just preparing my brain to get through any outcome and keep on going for what I want.

This is a major problem for my mental health. I take failure too hard I am a teacher and my marking has been rejected my a external verifier (this is my third year) it hit me so hard... I work work and double check everything and expect so much out of students but I took it too hard when this happened. I need to learn to be kind to myself :( learn from this and not call myself a failure.
  • just wat i needed..amazingly good speech..most of us find it hard to accept reality, to accept that failure is part of reality...moving on after failure and still persisting is what will bring about true success
  • @PRChilis
"´Cause one fundamental element of success is failure", The question is wich greater, my desire to succeed or my fear to fail" "don't quit too early", "sometimes we win, sometimes we learn", "Go and fail as faster you can" "Just keep giving your best effort" " the pass is nort equal than the future" " the only thing that keeps us from getting what we want, is the story we keep telling ourselves about why we can't have it"
  • Thank you so much for those three principle. They will help me a lot for my future. Started a company two years ago and decided to live with my girlfriend. Then Covid came, and started I to loose everything. Now I’m back on track for a brighter future that I choose, like you say it is just practice and what you hope for that will shape my life. Thank you! 🙏
