Joshua Roberts, like thousands of others across the country, perform what’s known as a First Amendment Audit where citizens armed with cameras show up in public places to record. They’re there to test whether government employees and law enforcement understand the public’s rights to record in public places.

  • "They looked like insurrectionists." Wow. He had months to come up with that.
  • It's just crazy how people in power can get away with crazy stuff and just say I didn't know any better and walk free but citizens have no room to move.

This is excellent unbiased investigative journalism! It is so important that the truth get out in this day and age.
  • When the cop interviewed him he was putting the answers into his mouth. As a cop you don't ask a question and say the answer. Unless you're trying to help them get away with it. The experts call that corruption..
  • Every single time I investigate myself, I am found not guilty.
  • He does this to save our rights if you don't know. It amazes me that people in high places still don't know the Constitution even though they swore to uphold it.
  • A bullying public official makes an ass of himself and treats a human being like the enemy. Wtf is wrong with people
  • Since when does a Police Chief come to a scene and put the alleged offender in his car and drive them away.
  • I'm so glad to see the thin blue line gang is finally being held accountable.

Wow this is real journalism from a news outlet. Good job to those involved. They shy away from stories like this often times.
  • @Bdermady
Our judicial system and police departments should not be investigating themselves. I’m not a lawyer but I know it’s a conflict of interest.
  • "you cant come in a public building" , the fact he said that is all you need to know about how crazy he is
  • Glad to see the Queen City News supporting independent journalists and their struggle for government transparency to the public.
  • This is what corruption looks like. The chief should even be charged with obstruction. All these county officials tried so hard to cover this up. Truly shameful behavior by unprofessional servants.
  • He saw something he didn't like, so he just defaulted to, "They must be insurrectionists like on 1/6." That is scary as hell. This person has no business in any position of authority.
  • When you have an investigator spoon feeding answers to the softball questions, you know they are not taking this seriously. Shame on them.
  • Thanks for exposing this kind of corruption and injustice. Hopefully with the work of the auditors and people like you things will improve.
  • Everyone needs to stand up against tyranny like this, or lose all rights.
