As calls mount for President Joe Biden to step down as the presumptive Democratic Party nominee over concerns surrounding his mental and physical capacity to lead, we host a debate between two longtime members of the Democratic Party: Wajahat Ali, who recently authored a column subtitled "Biden Is Very Old and Out of Touch, and Here's Why You Should Vote for Him," and Norman Solomon of RootsAction.org, which sponsors the Step Aside Joe campaign.

At 81 years old, Biden is already the oldest person to ever serve as president of the United States. His recent public appearances, including a poor performance at his first presidential debate against presumptive Republican Party nominee Donald Trump — who, if reelected, would be the second-oldest person to ever serve as president — have renewed questions about his health and ability. Biden has thus far resisted pressure to suspend his reelection campaign, even as the U.S. liberal coalition fractures over his candidacy. Ali says that now is the time to unite over a candidate to prevent a second Trump presidency, and that without a clear alternative, only Biden can run a winnable campaign. Meanwhile, Solomon argues that Biden's performance thus far has already critically weakened his chances of winning the election. "Uniting behind a losing candidate is a bad idea," he says.

Ali's position is maddening. If he believes voters will show up to save Democracy REGARDLESS of the ticket, why does he think it's a mistake to change the ticket??

The Emperor has no clothes and we can all see that.

Wajahat Ali doesn't grasp how many people have already decided they will not vote for Joe no matter what

I am 71 so maybe my memory is faulty, but didn't Biden PROMISE to be a one-term President when he ran 4 years ago? How about pulling out some footage of that speech from 4 years ago? I blame Jill Biden for permitting her husband to run for another term for the presidency.

AOC has now become a politician, telling us with a straight face how grand the emperor looks in his brand new clothes.

It is not one debate. He's been like this for four years.

I’m disappointed & disgusted how people are abandoning Biden/Harris over one debate performance!

I'm glad Wajahat Ali brought up the example of the French elections. Because in France, the left changed course dramatically in just one week. Candidates doing poorly withdrew in order to bolster the left overall, a strategy that happened too quickly and dynamically for polls to capture. The lesson from the French victory is clear: when you are projected to lose, you need to change your course and pick a better strategy. So again, thank you, Wajahat Ali, for raising this illustrative example.

You know who also wants Biden to continue? The MAGA zealots.

AOC literally said 2 years ago that she couldn’t support Joes second term. But now…..she’s all in? Sure

Wajahat Ali just lost all respect. He's trying to have it both ways and protect his future income.
  • @Base612
Wajahat's position is wholly afactual. Double and triple down on a situation that is nearly hopeless. Also, if Biden is complicit in genocide, he is not morally fit to be the President.. Shouldnt we select a nominee who will attract the voters who cannot vote for Biden due to his moral failures?
  • We're asking the wrong question. It's not "Can he beat Trump?" The question should be "Is he fit to be President?" If not, and he isn't, he should resign now.

Both sides are completely CORRECT! Im a Black wm of NY, voted for JB and will again. However, JB is too old for the job and so is DT too! However, what is the agenda? This is a choice between 2 men. But what is the agenda? Universal childcare or health care? Universal Basic income? Stopping inflation? Housing? College debt? Jobs? Income inequality?ANYTHING? WHAT ARE THE DEMOCRAT OR JB TELLING US TO VOTE FOR??? Im 45 and I have been a struggling single parent for over 25 years and i keeps getting harder and harder to survive. My 4 kids a great and they are struggling too! This fight over which too old candidate, the too old nice guy or the too old evil guy is RIDICULOUS! I WANT TO KNOW HOW WILL ANY PRESIDENT HELP ME AND MY CHILDREN LIVE A BETTER LIFE! Thats the question and no one has an answer. Im tired of voting for the lesser of 2 evils

Both should drop off. We need someone who cares for our democracy. We as a nation have lost our footing and dying as a nation. We have allowed the enemy to root its hatred of this country to grow. I have lost all hope for our future as a country. Politicians do not care only about the votes they get. 😢
  • @adripecas
When using France as an example… you’re failing to acknowledge that the people didn’t rally behind Macron and his centrist party… they had other options they voted for to block the far right. Democrats can begrudgingly vote for Biden… the undecided/independent (uncommitted) votes don’t have that here.

Iniatally I was leary of Biden running for re-election after that debacle of a debate, but after watching his EURO press conference I'm reassured to the point he's capable and should be given the chance of serving another term. Despite sometimes mixing up names or even inadvertently misstating numbers, I found him to have a wide breadth of understanding of politics and the presidency, and a man of good moral character. He also seem to be resided in a fact that he would adhere to adverse medical diagnosis. On the other hand he's running against the Antichrist
