If you ask someone who their favorite character in Steven Universe is, Peridot is a pretty popular answer and for very good reason! Her character is heavily associated with the show’s transition to a darker, serialized story, her journey of self discovery is always a fantastic watch, she has a top-tier design, with or without the limb enhancers and she eventually becomes the quintessential fandom nerd. Encapsulating the rush of having a hyperfixation, dedicating all your spare time to overanalyzing a fictional world and its characters, while staying perfectly in-character herself.
But of course there’s so much more to Peridot than just being a geek - she’s the first gem in over 5000 to rebel against the Great Diamond Authority! She’s someone who put in the time and effort to unlearn her prejudices and realize the gems of Homeworld had been collectively brainwashed through fear and propaganda. And by disavowing their harmful beliefs, she was able to uncover things about herself that she would’ve never tapped into otherwise. Get ready to unleash your inner morp, because today we’re delving into the evolution of one of Cartoon Network’s best characters. This is Peridot: Era 2’s first rebel gem.

I honestly think Yellow Diamond DID remember Peridot when Blue and Yellow went on the offensive but Yellow refused to give Peridot the satisfaction of being remembered. With their last interaction of Peri insulting Yellow, it’d be like a janitor insulting a CEO: the insult is gonna stay with them since it probably has NEVER happened before, but if they interacted again, why would the CEO acknowledge it and give the janitor the satisfaction of taking up space in their mind as a memory?

Peridot literally had the best character development of any character in the show. I still remember her meta line in the movie saying she would’ve gotten all of character development lost due to the Rejuvenator.

Honestly, I like to think her "Metal Bending" is a tie to her "lemon handsers" (limb enhancers) , She's basically magnetic to keep them in place as she works.

A lot of people miss the fact that both Peridot and Steven are the catalysts for the entire series happening! She sends the Red Eye to Earth in the second episode long before Steven sets Lapis free.

I love how her outfit changed not just with the visor, but to have the Crystal Hems' Star on her torso instead of a diamond, showing her change even more, and I think that's a great detail not many people catch

I love (as a person who spends a little too much time on their iPad) when Peridot went “I love this thing.” While hugging her IPad. She’s just a magical character.

Peridots arc is such a defining arc of the show. It’s one of the first things I think about when I think about the show because it was handled so well. They deep dived into her character more than any other non-main character. Something about her slowly realizing the flaws in home world society and the harm of it was some of the best stuff in the show.
