  • I was always a HUGE REM fan from the early 80's. I got married in 92 when I was 33. This album came out a week before our wedding. We drove out to Calfornia, we live in Iowa. 2 weeks. This played (AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE) about half the time we were in the car. My wife passed away about 5 years ago. Still think of her deeply when I hear any of this album. Especially NIGHT SWIMMING. Miss you Teresa.

I am 75 years old, and I didn't pay much attention to R.E.M. in the day, even though I lived only a few miles from Athens, GA. I was more into the B52s. I have rediscovered R.E.M. and their songs. They produced such great music. You never know how your attitudes will change as you get older. I wish I had seen them live.

As a Muslim from the Middle East, it is through the brilliantly crafted songs of R.E.M that I first became exposed to the greatness of Western culture. R.E.M songs remind me of the happy times of my childhood when optimism ruled the day. Things have changed for the worse since then, but I will always have R.E.M hits to fall back on. Thank you Michael Stipe for brilliant works of art! I'll be forever grateful.

Hearing this again reminds me of how good life was still in the 90’s. We had music like this that made us all feel like we were living life in the last part of a century and it was magnificent!

There is something hauntingly beautiful about this song. Makes me feel nostalgic about a time I will never revisit.
  • Brilliant song, brilliant band, brilliant theme. This is pure gold.
  • The songs for man on the moon and the actual movie never got the right amount of respect and love it should have gotten. I'm fighting cancer right now... So it has new meaning to me.. Love everyone. Peace

REM inspired me in the late 80's in the sense that you can do anything as an artist or musician. With them, there were no rules.
  • R.E.M. were just inducted into the songwriters hall of fame!
  • Timeless song. The lyrics, the voice, the mandolin, the acoustic guitar, the electric and bass guitar, the drums. That’s creativity right there. A masterpiece.
  • I can still picture this video playing on my living room tv back in 92. I was 13 years old. At the time I thought my life was so hard. Boy I really had no idea. I miss those days dearly.

It is so unbelievable how this college garage band became a world-wide sensation but when I listen, I can see why REM is so awesome. Great song writing/ great sound

I'm here. I love this song. 66 and going strong on the tunes I will love forever. This is one of my all time favorites!!!!😊
  • "Automatic for the People" pulled me from the brink of a nervous breakdown. I lay in bed, alone in Thailand, just absorbing it for hours at a time. This album healed me.
  • Michael Stipe has a wonderful unique voice, love R.E.M.

This is the type of song you hear late at night driving home from an event that was the time of your life.
  • Automatic For The People is just such a brilliant album. Thank you R.E.M. to enrich our lives with so much good music ❤️
