I'm only 32 and already getting divorced.. today is the 2 year anniversary of our separation. I still can't shake the guilt for wanting to leave my wife (and our dog Appa), but she sent me this song months ago, and although she didn't say anything else to go along with it, the message is clear. When she sent it I listened to it on repeat crying, driving 5 hours from Raleigh to Atlanta. While the guilt is still there, this song helps lift the weight, and helps me forgive myself. Song writing used to be a hobby of mine, but after the marriage was struggling I couldn't write anymore. I'm going to learn how to play this song today on guitar (maybe even buy a mandolin soon), because of how much this song means to me. Thanks for helping me and many others out there heal.

The way he pours his heart into the chorus really touches me, especially when he says “We once sang retrograde, we’d shake the frame of your car..” Me and my ex always bonded over music.. it became like our love language tbh. And one of our absolute favorite things to do was have duets in the car. I can remember in those moments feeling so in love as we sang to one another. We had no cares in the world, we were in the moment loving life and one another. It’s been 4 1/2 years now since I’ve seen her, but the first time I listened to this song a few weeks ago our entire relationship flashed before my eyes. Because while I am still heartbroken we didn’t make it, I feel no bad blood towards her.. because the love we had was what I needed at that point in my life.

Plz know I would never bother going to a concert unless I had friends to go with but I will PROUDLY go alone to yours and SCREAM these lyrics . You music is medicine.

Reminds me of a relationship I have been struggling to let go of. I don’t recall ever crying to an uptempo song before but, alas, here we are.
