Lyrics:
As you promised me that I was more than all the miles combined
You must have had yourself a change of heart like halfway through the drive
Because your voice trailed off exactly as you passed my exit sign
Kept on driving straight and left our future to the right

Now I am stuck between my anger and the blame that I can’t face
And memories are something even smoking weed does not replace
And I am terrified of weather ‘cause I see you when it rains
Doc told me to travel but there's COVID on the planes

And I love Vermont but it's the season of the sticks
And I saw your mom she forgot that I existed
And it’s half my fault but I just like to play the victim
I’ll drink alcohol ‘till my friends come home for Christmas

And I’ll dream each night of some version of you
That I might not have but I did not lose
Now you’re tire tracks and one pair of shoes
And I’m split in half but that’ll have to do

So I thought that if I piled something good on all my bad
That I could cancel out the darkness I inherited from Dad
No I am no longer funny ‘cause I miss the way you laugh
Once called me forever now you still can't call me back

And I love Vermont but it's the season of the sticks
And I saw your mom she forgot that I existed
And it’s half my fault but I just like to play the victim
I’ll drink alcohol ‘till my friends come home for Christmas

And I’ll dream each night of some version of you
That I might not have but I did not lose
Now you’re tire tracks and one pair of shoes
And I’m split in half but that’ll have to do

Oh, that’ll have to do
My other half was you
I hope this pain’s just passing through
But I doubt it

And I love Vermont but it's the season of the sticks
And I saw your mom she forgot that I existed
And it’s half my fault but I just like to play the victim
I’ll drink alcohol ‘till my friends come home for Christmas

And I’ll dream each night of some version of you
That I might not have but I did not lose
Now you’re tire tracks and one pair of shoes
And I’m split in half but that’ll have to do
Have to do

  • I'm five years a widower now. I miss Kate everyday. I heard this song on the radio and had to pull over. Good songs help us feel the emotions we try to hide. Well done Sir.
  • “I’ll dream each night of some version of you, that I might not have but I did not lose” fuck that hits hard
  • All sorts of crap on the radio and then THIS comes on. This is raw. This is no manufactured product. This is heart music.
  • Thing thay hits me the most about this song. 'I am no longer funny because I miss the way you laugh'. Imagine loving somebody so much, you lose your sense of humor. Imagine only wanting a sense of humor just to hear her laugh.
  • “That I could cancel out the darkness I inherited from dad”. Damn. This line kicked my soul.
  • @RODOGSOFFICIAL
"Once called me forever now you still can't call me back" This hits my heart
  • @Teajay21
Noah's songs make me nostalgic for a place I've never been
  • @somoagro2268
In an age of heroes, villains, wars, artificial intelligence, + burdens of anxiety... such song reminds me a lot about simply being human
  • @the_jacky_frost
This song is what every song should be. A poem set to music.
  • @brianpierce7790
My 17 year old daughter introduced me to this song. As a 44 year old dude, I'm so thankful she played it for me. I've found a new artist that resonates with my soul.
  • @question422
" I hope this pain's just passing through but i doubt it" too relatable
  • @bigkang13
Nothing in this song applies to me, and it still makes me feel the emotions of all of it. Great song and great writing.
  • @keyn.7765
This whole album will be my anthem and medication for the rest of my life. What an amazing time to be alive. Thank you Noah.
  • @lmPeely
Its April 2024, let's see how many legends are listening to this incredible song🍢
  • All over the radios now in Australia. Better late then never, especially with this gold.
  • @thomasmccann2245
“I’ll dream each night of some version of you, that I might not have but I did not lose” hits me so heavy 😢
  • Noah did it again! Theres never been a bad song. Every song he makes is a masterpiece. He deserves everything in this world!
  • @nerd26373
Noah Kahan deserves a Grammy. The songwriting is fluid, emotional, and impactful. He really poured out his thoughts and feelings into this song. I love Vermont, but it's the Season of The Sticks. Couldn't help but feel homesick.
  • In a dark world filled with wars, hatred and greed, this song made me so happy when I heard it play for the first time on radio yesterday. At the end of the day we are all humans with blood running in our veins. I hope that someday humanity finds its way back to true love for one another. Thank you so much Mr. Kahan for sharing your amazing talent with the world. This is so good!
