Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. That bios edit hack was insane. Never knew you could do that.
  • This was a fantastic video, thank you for efforts in trying to remove the power limits!
  • following along to see if this gets an update to resolve. great work

Thanks for linking the Notebook Review Page I got 730CB on my 8550U Razer Blade Stealth instead of 550CB and it’s just amazing Thank you very much
  • This is very great and educating!! Please post contents with firmware and hardware related hacks and any computer science like this topics! I really love this, u got my sub

Great video keep it up, there is a real need for this type of trial and error video.
  • I'm glad to have found this video! Subscribed. A little too late unfortunately, but at least now I know I'm not crazy. I went down so many roads with this laptop trying to figure out why it occasionally failed to perform for no good reason. (and I'm on the late 2019 model with the gtx 1650!... same story!)
  • For only 2.5k subs, this was an incredibly informative video. Looking into changing configurable tdp options for an hp spectre here because it does a similar thing as the razer blade stealth, but after 9 minutes it drops back down to 20 watts on a 9750h, which is a ridiculous drop, everything considered.

Good video. A few years back this would have been a how-to that would have worked on everything...
  • Thanks for the nice video. I made a custom BIOS from the information you posted in the overview section. As a result, I was able to avoid PL1 by making the system misinterpret the actual TDP. I was able to set my Blade Stealth i7 8565U above 4GHz on all cores and got Cinebench R15 880cb at the limit of cooling.
  • you just saved my whole weekend of trying to fix my problem.
  • Enable CPU VR settings in the BIOS and try and set the following. Advanced/CPU VR Settings/Core IA VR settings/ IMON Slope = 50 IMON Offset = 31999 IMON Prefix = - This works on my Eurocom laptop to lie to the laptop about the CPU power consumption and allow for full turbo boost without the laptop power throttling down. Power readings are going to be wrong, but it will allows me to run unlimited. Although I would be careful about temps as it looks like your laptop was throttling due to power, but the temps were skyrocketing anyways. Also your mileage may vary since you have a Razer laptop but the BIOS looks the similar.
  • Had my RBS for less then a day. Returned it once I found that the CPU clock drops to shit on battery power. As far as I've searched no review or any documentation says this...wtf. huge deal breaker.
  • Thanks for this video! I have an XPS 15 9570. And after struggling with power/thermo throttling I started to thinking that maybe Razer is building good laptops... Also, I've checked forums/youtube for HP, Apple, etc. And now I see that the whole industry is screwed up. They all have same problem - thermo trottling :/

Can you actually maintain 25w TDP on the cpu when doing combined load? Or it will still throttle down to 15w? Is it gotta throttle down to 15w when combined with EGPU?
  • @bwhsltd
I've got the new RBS late 2019 with the GTX1650. This sees sustained power limiting to 15W. Disabling the GTX1650 within device manager allows the chip to run at 25W. Synapse has 3 options, Battery, Balanced and Gaming. Gaming allows boost up to about 45W for a few seconds then tops out at 15w. Temps at 15w only about 65c.
  • The RBS 2019 just got a Bios and EC update (1 July 2019). Can't find much info about the updates. Maybe you'd have a better idea. Let me know!
