Surgery, Struggling, Finding New Ways of Coping

Published 2018-08-30
I owe you guys a bit of a life update...

Right now, I am facing the possibility of amputation or significant surgery in the upcoming months, and if I'm honest I'm struggling. This is a situation in which I am challenged to find new ways of coping with my trauma, because almost all of my previous coping methods and means of dealing with PTSD triggers revolved around physical activity. And so, the adventure begins!

What strategies do you use to cope with your trauma?

Idk if you're gonna see this, 5 years later, but I'm going in for surgery next week after 8 years of repeated injury and physical therapy, this video really helped me figure out how I'm feeling and to find positives in this process. Thank you❤

Argh I could feel the frustration and sadness. :( Surgeries are hard, and can even be traumatic in and of themselves. This definitely IS a big deal. Try to think of it this way - feeling the icky stuff now helps you plan in advance so it doesn't all engulf you all at once at some random time in the future. Take it each day at a time. This is hard stuff! I hope you can have some positive outcomes.
  • Hi there, you are so grave to come on camera to talk about the difficult situation you're in. You are such an inspiration. I'm not a active or outdoorsy person. So I thought maybe I can help you come up with some new things to do to help you cope. Drawing, coloring, singing, reading, crafts, decorating the house, journaling, writing letters to old friends, studying, charity work..... I hope you find something that can help you. But you're always going to be an active person. It's a personality type. It's not a physical state. You are active! And I think you are amazing for creating YouTube videos, that's active too!
