Stitt IS his own Maaaan, an improvisational storyteller of no ordinary class. Clarify, Accuracy and Alacrity HAS always been his thing Whether on alto, tenor or bari, Sonny DOES MAKE either saxophone 🎷 sing. Lohvissimo!

A happy swinger nice groove , Sonny knows all the tricks on his horn with the elegant Hank Jones feeding him beautiful cords based on Gershwins" I Got Rythmn " .Paying homage to Daddy Lester Young .

one of the first tunes I played as a very young budding bop bassist in #52 never quite made a ray brown l.o.l but still love the music and sonny a jazz legend.many thanks.
  • While most guys would probably make this comparison the other way around, I'd prefer to say it this way: Sonny plays clean, like Pepper Adams. Yep. His lines are all so lyrical and well voiced, to the point. Just like Pepper really. Glad to have both to listen to and learn from!

I prefer the more driving versions of this song that I've heard, but there's no denying how good it feels to just sit back and chill to sounds like this~
  • @coltrane505
His imrov phrasing is so sincere, not fast and meaningless like some of the other saxmen.
  • Man, Parker is Mastering those changes at breakneck tempo!!! BUT I prefer Sonny. Thank You for posting. Working on that solo now
