Sanctions against Huawei fail, then birth "Delete America" campaign across China's supply chains

Published 2024-07-31
Five years following strict technology exports bans aimed at Huawei, a Chinese electronics and telecommunications giant, the company is stronger and more profitable than ever. What's more, Huawei and thousands of other companies across China have embraced a "Delete America" strategy from all their supply chains.

Some officials maintain that the bans on Huawei exports and contracting have been successful, however, and point to laws that require US government contractors, the Pentagon, and allied countries to "rip and replace" Huawei gear from communications networks.

However, almost no real progress there has been made, as only a small percentage of US government contractors have made the switch, the Pentagon has asked for and received waivers each year so they do not have to comply, and our allies have flatly refused to replace Huawei telecommunications equipment.

When surveyed, Americans report historic low levels of confidence in our institutions, with corresponding high levels of distrust. Officials promised that tariffs will not lead to higher prices, that national security concerns necessitate banning affordable Chinese electric cars, and that Huawei represents a grave threat to the country. American citizens seem to reject most of those positions, as they continue to buy Chinese-made products in high volumes, and express to pollsters their hope to buy Chinese vehicles. As to Huawei, even the Pentagon and our biggest contractors are sticking with Huawei gear, given more costly alternatives.

  • Spot on! Huawei’s founder was a huge fan and admirer of US and US companies. He purposely didn’t compete against US companies in certain fields. Now gloves are off and watch out!

The "delete America" campaign is real. For all my projects, now I have to closely exam every single components and put them on a list if it is American made or it depends on some American sub-component as I have to prepare some excuses to convince people why they are still being used. This is not because people don't want American stuff, they love American made stuff, we all do, there are just real concerns that such American related components can be and will be cut off at anytime. People don't want to bet their projects on such highly unreliable choices.
  • Cutting the USA out of the supply chains is the rational response to the sanctions policy. It takes time to get it done compleatly, because things has to be redesigned. But who would take the risk of using American components when knowing that's a liability? We independent observers have long known this, but the US polititians continue on this self-destructive path. A few reasonable tariffs to protect the own industry is one thing. But refusing to sell stuff forces the other part to make their own. And while doing that, they become competition. Simple logic, isn't it? But the Congress likes a show of force better than getting an actual effect. Forcing China to compete, instead of buying stuff from you, is a bad strategy. They can't be suppressed that way, and they have a tendency of recover stronger than you!
  • American sanctions especially on Chinese companies is a blessing in disguise for Chinese to look inward💪💪
  • So the US government has access to cheap Huawei components, but the citizens don't? Makes sense!!

"If a congressman says it is raining outside ... 92% of people plan a picnic day at the beach" This is so accurate it hurts..

and America's debt just broke $35 Trillion, $36 T by the end of the year. Enjoy that America.

When you become a risk, you will be removed or isolated. The US is a significant risk to businesses.

And it is getting worse for America and the West. Interesting times we are living in.
  • Without Huawei, the world would be at the mercy of the US in terms of technology.
  • Trust in big government and corporations is also falling rapidly in the rest of the west. There are boycotts of any corporation that supports Israel and those that are profiteering from the cost of living crisis in the west as a result of sanctions against Russia. It’s becoming a controlled demolition of capitalism in the west.

It's a situation that is both shameful and dishonorable. Uncle Sam is asserting his authority to have Canada take care of the dirty laundry. The fact that Canada followed through on the order is saddening.
  • This is one reason why US needs to replace all of its congressmen and set a new law for its congress.
  • China standing strong 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. Jiayou!!
  • I live in SE Asia for years and in East Asia for some decades, and "delete america" has lately become a popular sentiment among the majority of nations and ppl here today (except in the impoverished PH)
