Blair did not refuse to join The Euro. He was desperate to join, his Chancellor was the one who blocked it.

When you include Churchill, it's hard for people to ignore his wartime period

I actually forgot that May was ever a PM, not sure if that's a dunk on her or if my mind has just been turned to mush after spending too much time trying to keep up with UK Politics over the past 5 yrs

I think many of the audience are taking Churchill's war time premiership into account. However, the poll was about post war prime ministers, and Churchill was rather useless during his second term.
  • Glad to see Attlee getting the level of recognition he deserves from both experts and audience

Not watched the video yet but definitely Clement Atlee. He oversaw the creation of the NHS, the recovery of the UK from WWII, and implemented many of the reforms recommended by the Bevan report. (Gotta give Mr Bevan massive credit for his groundbreaking report, too.)
  • Teresa May got the really raw deal here - she inherited Brexit from David Cameron
  • “Pitt the Elder!” “Lord Palmerston!” “Pitt the Elder!”

As an American, I'm gonna nominate the one that made it so you all don't have to pay the fucking 3000 dollar emergency room fee I just had to pay to learn that my chest pains were nothing. So yeah Clement Attlee.

Attlee was one of the few prime ministers who’s actually had a vision for this country. The NHS alone makes him the best!

New Labour was an incredible move to progressive centrism that would have greatly benefited the country for years and years. Unfortunately the Iraq war put a massive stain on the whole project that it's never been able to remove from its image

I'm actually surprised at how similar the opinions were. I think the reason for the discrepancy for Churchill was probably the fact that the original description of this contest was "post-war". For many, I expect Churchill was inextricably linked with the WWII, and trying to gauge him on the short time he was in office afterwards, is not really something that most are able to do. I am extremely surprised at how well Thatcher scored with the audience, since I would have said that the content of this channel is generally progressive-centre and I wouldn't have thought that she would score very well with that demographic.

I kinda feel bad for May. When she talks in the House of Commons nowadays she's so great at presenting her arguments. I don't agree with everything she says, but she's such a breath of fresh air compared to the shouting match that is the House of Commons
  • wait. there is a massive discrepancy between how Thatcher's grading in the individual categories, and her final academic standing. from negative in all but one category, to second place, the hell happened there?

Clement Attlee definitely deserves the top mark, he gave us the NHS, millions of new social housing etc
  • @kgizzle92
There were few who thought him a starter, Many who thought themselves smarter. But he ended PM, CH and OM, an Earl and a Knight of the Garter. Cheers to the Earl Attlee

Who's Britain's Best Prime Minister Ever? That's easy: Robert Walpole
  • @fizzyb00t
The survey asked about post-war PMs, but Churchill's most important work was done in the years 1940-1945.
