Turns out that old Samsung Q1 Ultra tablet is capable of running Mac OS X. So today we're going to go through the most convoluted way to play the OS X version of Halo on this thing. Oh... and probably mess around with the touchscreen a bit :P

The resolution can be fixed easily; it's a common issue when Hackintoshing these machines with weird displays that OS X doesn't properly read the display's EDID. You can fix this by dumping the EDID in Windows, then manually injecting it in OS X. This is what I had to do to get the display to work properly under OS X on my Sony Vaio UX UMPCs.

A tablet hackintosh would have blown my mind back then. And running Halo! Great video!

9:56 it is so bizarre that it says Copyright 1999 yet just below are older logos of Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Surely some graphic designers updated the label and they must have noticed the year there and asked their managers, which makes me wonder if the copyright protection really ran out and they hoped nobody would notice it.

I didn't imagine you were going to do this, but it was something we all needed lmao. I can't even hackintosh my 2021 lenovo laptop because of hardware and seeing you do it on the samsung thingy is insane (and also disappointing for my laptop. literally disproves "newer is better"). I think you should try doing videos on Microsoft/Nokia Lumia and Windows Phone (and maybe a video on LumiaWOA? That's Windows on Arm). Plus, you could show off WUT which is a third party app store for Windows Phone devices (basically theres actually apps now - not as many as iOS or Android but still very usable). Thanks for the content! I hope you see this comment :) Have an awesome day Michael!

This would have scratched every itch I had for a super portable touchscreen Hackintosh back in the day. Unfortunately I was stuck on my old Compaq laptop and Dell desktop. Super cool!

Rather than checking the printed copyright year, the best way to identify a disc at glance is looking at the matrix text on the center rings of the inner side. There's a database called redump showing info of different video game disc pressings, including version numbers and any other particular content they may have (as long as submitters take the time to check)

I am a simple man: I see a MJD Video and know, it will be full of errors, entertainment, and most obscure tec, I could imagine. And this is why I love Michael MJD. This is content, that you can watch on today’s YouTube, that is actually high quality. Keep it going!
  • @stackhack
the tony chacheres with the 1999 colyright is crazy
  • 6:17 That jingle when there are jump cuts with title cards in these videos always cracks me up like nothing else!

I've always been holding out for Apple to actually introduce some sort of native touchscreen support for their desktop OS, I got pretty hyped when they announced their own silicon that would be used between their Mac and iPad lineup. Hoped it would be the starting point for a merge between macOS and iOS, like full desktop OS running on the iPad because same architect but nah. Still separated and still no quality desktop touchscreen support. It's pretty dumb because a ton of folks use Macs for photo editing with external drawing pads, hell they even use iPads with the Apple Pen lmao.

Good work getting OS X installed. I'd love to see you keep trying to get that screen res working and find a way to calibrate the touch screen. I bet that for basic tasks it could still be a usable and useful little pocket Mac.
