What foods do you avoid if they are canned?
  • In the late 1970's I was given 2 cans of B&M canned bread when I was with the Canadian Armed Forces.. I placed them in my flight bag . They were in the bag which was placed in storaged when I went to Germany in 1979. When I returned to Canada in 1990, I retrieved the bag with the cans still in it. I opened one - it was still moist and tasted fresh. I stll have the other one.

There is a lot of information in this video. A marathon, for sure.
  • Your video was very informative, I do have all the items, but not enough in storage because I was concerned about expiry dates. Thanks for the information on the shelf life of those goods.

There are many canned products I avoid but canned corned beef hash is at the top of the list. At least among those talked about in this mashup that I have actually eaten. Canned "ham" is a close contender. On the other hand I actually like Spam. I only eat a can of Spam infrequently (i.e., a handful of times each year), usually sliced and fried alongside eggs and potatoes for breakfast, but that is primarily because (a) of its high salt content, and (b) it is expensive unless you can buy it discounted. What I find interesting is that some canned soups I love. At least when purchased at a discounted price. Such as Progresso or Campbells beef barley and chicken noodle soup. While other flavors, such as split pea soup, I won't buy even when heavily discounted. And I love split pea soup (at least when I make it from scratch).

I buy the canned meats such as hams, spam, corned beef etc., as it serves as a small side. I watch the sodium though. If we use corned beef, nothing else can have salt in it.

WOW , NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT CAN PUMPKIN 👍
  • As cans are made out of aluminum, I prefer to buy these items in glass jars or even plastic ones. I've read & heard enough about how aluminum can be a contributing factor to dementia.

I love SPAM! It’s the best. For real, fried spam in a skillet with some Kim, rice, and eggs…breakfast of champions.

I get organic pumpkin for my cats, and they love it. I love sardines and potted meat as well. I know potted meat is no good for me, but I only eat it once a year maybe. I grew up eating it as a kid. I get canned Mackel fish and make fish cakes out of it.

I would have bought tuna last Saturday, but a) it was all in pouches, not cans b) it was all heavily seasoned c) it was packed in water, not olive oil. Under those circumstances, despite being on sale, it was a false economy. Anyone for Gulf grouper?:)

Why is everyone so scared of salt?! I used to be and now I use it on everything! The good pink salt, though! It's sugar that's the disease culprit! I get lower-sodium things and add my own good salt to taste!
  • @thebossmj79
I have canned everything at home on rotation for storms. I buy cans of soups and mix with white rice. Good flavor and less sodium among a large group.

Have served in the military where most of the menu comes from from can or packets hmmm😊.

At least where I'm at plain Spaghetti O's have always been more popular. Maybe the meated varieties have slipped in recent years but I don't think they were ever more popular than regular spaghetti o's.
