  • This is the real life of a town with nice people, affected by a war that they did not were part of, but they are suffering the consequences. I wish better times are coming ahead for all those nice people

I lived in Jordan for a couple of years in the early 2000s and went to Syria around eight times during that timeframe. For tourism, it's extremely hard to beat. Great people, awesome scenery, excellent weather, outstanding historical sites, and some of the best food that you'll ever eat. I sincerely hope that tourists will be able to go back soon in large numbers and resume the possibility to enjoy this wonderful country.
  • This was so interesting because I really thought Syria was still almost uninhabitable. The best parts were the ice cream shop that’s stayed in business through everything, and the examples of the different accents.

Here to commend the guide. Knowledgeable and not at all pushy.

Hi Sly, when I was a teenager like any other in the Arab world I was a big fan of Nizar Qabbani, a well known Syrian poet, I never really understood some of his poetry about Damascus, but when I went there and as I was walking in this alley in old Damascus, the breeze shook up the branches of a jasmine tree and heavens rained soft petals over me and this fragrant night breeze finally helped me understand what Nizar’s poems in love for Damascus were all about. Wish Syria and Syrians all the best. Another great vlog, thanks. Ps. I think you’re lucky you had this guide, he seems like good company. Best regards.
  • Sly, you are breaking through the mold! Keep plotting you path brother!

In German we have a word for the opposite of homesickness, ie Fernweh. It's a yearning for far away lands. I have watched so many wonderful vloggers, including you, travelling to places that are made out to be dangerous when they are filled with beautiful cultures and people. Thanks for doing what you do!
  • Great to see its returning to some kind of normalcy. I went there in 2017 with a TV channel and we made a documentary about the Sayyida Zaynab shrine area (Syria: My Return). There was still shelling going on then, and a busload of Iranian pilgrims had been blown up two months earlier - the shell of the vehicle had been left near the shrine. Prayers for peace and that people can return home too.
