  • Thanks for mentioning my books. You had a great list of books and I was honored that you included mine in there.
  • @primo9541
MARSHALL IS THE DEFINITION OF WISE OLD MAN AND ALSO HE LOOKS LIKE A LEGIT WISE OLD MAN.
  • My daughter started dancing when she heard Marshal singing 😂

33:15 start of a discussion that was really valuable to me. Taking notes, not multitasking, sitting down to do one thing for a set period of time. This is something that I've gotten WORSE at growing up, meaning that I've lost a lot of focus since finishing my education. However, yesterday I've managed to sit down and finish a drawing in one sitting. It took 3-4 hours, very late at night (started just before midnight I think). I can't even tell how long exactly it took, because I was in a flow like state and very focused on the drawing. This is a really good indication for me that I had a great session, and I feel a TON lot better vs. being distracted while working. I remember feeling this level of focus many times before, so now it's just a matter of consciously trying to focus on the process of drawing. Hopefully you don't have to be alone in your room and late at night like me just to focus, but putting yourself in an environment where you CAN put your mind to focus makes the whole difference. Also I want to point out that music is completely fine, but only when it's being received as a white noise/background noise. You don't want it to take your attention.
  • IT'S COMING! ITS HERE! THE DAY HAS COME AND HE'S DOING IT! MARSHALL'S ACKNOWLEDGING THE BOOKSHELF -- TOUCHING IT EVEN! WE'RE GETTING A BOOKSHELF TOUR! (KIND OF!)
  • So glad to see you back Stan. Love the chemistry between you two. Hope you guys enjoy your break. Will be going back through the season to pull out gems until you return.
  • @KoongYe
I see Marshall's beard is ready for Christmas.
  • Books are great because you don't get lost down rabbit holes like you do with the web. It's nice to look through 30 pages in a book for a concept reference vs the unlimited content of the web
  • Marshall's enthusiasm to learn and grow is contagious!
  • Having books for reference is very different from having the internet. When I google for references, the problem isn't that I can't find images that work, it's that I find so many other images that distract. That, combined with it being more screen time can sometimes be so numbing that it really slows my intake of visual information. Great recommendations, guys! Can't wait for next season!
  • I filled out the survey, but wanted to comment about how much I love the book reports! They are easily my favorite episodes of this podcast.
  • I've got SO MANY of your podcasts to catch up to. Hope to see more of you in the future, keep up the amazing work. Would love to know more about your development as artists: what you practised more; what you didn't; how your vision as an artist changed with age and knowledge; and so on.

As a lifetime competitive swimmer, listening to Stan talk about learning through repetitiveness and slowly adding another piece to the puzzle reminds me of what I’m now learning through trying to draw. You’ve gotta grind the basics individually, a lot, before you "get it" and it becomes natural. What I’ve been having trouble with is always trying to look at the bigger picture too often, and getting overwhelmed with all there is to learn then falling off the grind. These podcasts/videos have been great in keeping me grounded and offering advice on where and how to start. Your discourse and tangents are both entertaining and filled with knowledge. Please keep doing what you’re doing. Stan: I hope you continue to swim, it’s a great low impact sport that will keep you in shape for the rest of your life if you go to the pool a few times a week. Remember: technique is key! Marshall: you’ve definitely become the art "parent" of a lot of young artists through this series, whether you know it or not. Your perspective course has been great, and was definitely what I was looking for when trying to learn how to draw. Nice beard by the way! Looks great!
  • I forgot to say I like Marshalls songs in the survey. It lifts my spirits to see him so chirpy :) Congrats on the new baby Stan!
  • Welcome back Stan & congratulations for your fatherhood, Sir Marshall your starting jingle sounds great ☺ want more of those. 😅
  • @EmmyMW
As someone who loves books, this is one of my fave episodes for sure. Definitely a big YES to more book reviews for season 3! Will definitely add The Talent Code to my to-read list. Anyhoo...happy holidays to the entire team🤗
  • I love this podcast so much! Thank you and please never stop! I'm 39, have recently fallen back in love with art and I feel like I am absorbing knowledge like a sponge through you😍
