heres a quick explanation: anything that makes physical contact with your counter (such as a normal punch) will count, anything ranged will not. edit: upon closer inspection this only applies to specific moves, and move that moves you quickly will do the other variant.

Fun fact. You can avoid serious punch by stand really close to the user, and you won’t get blown away. But just standing there like you have infinity

I like how any weapon characters try to block with their sword/bat with this, it makes me want more variant animations for the game. For example, if someone uses death counter and you use death blow, similarly to jujutsu infinite’s domain clash, you have to do some sort of minigame that plays an animation where one counters the other. Or even smaller ones. Attacks that use their legs? It makes them hit the bat with their leg instead. Same with attacks that make their arm go up. And for projectile attacks like genos’ or sonics’, they could hit it back, run over and then do the same animation.
