Complex and Clean Topology Gears with Blender in Minutes

With this easy array rotation technique and some modifier tricks you can quickly create complex gears in Blender within minutes. The gear we create in this Blender tutorial makes use of the simple deform modifier to create a twisted effect. With a few tricks we will heavily reduce and optimize the topology of the gear and bevel all the edges.

  • This is the best tutorial when you're trying to make large gears. The rotational symmetry that you get from using the Array modifier is exactly what I needed. All other videos just assume you'll be able to quickly select the whole outer ring and apply transformations that way.

    Hey you may know this already but easier way of rotating than array modifier is using (F3 ->) spin command!

  • Far too complicated. Why not just generate a gear with the add-on and use the simple deform mod? You can do a soft bevel after. 30 seconds tops
