This Inkscape tutorial demonstrates how to make a shiny heart using a blur and clip technique. The blur and clip technique can be used to create a gradient effect with shapes that do not work well with the gradient tool. Inkscape version 0.48 was used for this video. This tutorial shows tips and tricks that can be useful for beginners as well as all Inkscape users.

I watched most of your videos for so many years now. The way you tutor is amazing and very clear. I learned a lot from most of your videos. Thanks a lot.

This tutorial is definitely the clearest, well-paced presentation I’ve seen. Your style takes into account the fact that there’s someone on the other end of the line trying not only to learn the technique but, more importantly, to understand WHAT YOU’RE SAYING. With about a nearly 50% hearing loss, combined with closed-captioning that sometimes can’t manage to reliably transcribe a heavy accent or too-rapid delivery much better than I can discern it, makes for a lot of rewinding/replaying (rinse and repeat 😀). Keep up the good work. Thanks much. P.S.: Just noticed the string of comments expressing similar appreciation. 👍

Hi, I've watched quite a few tuts on inkscape and I have to say your tuts are the best by far. You explain things so nicely and clearly. Even I can do the things you are showing. Can't thank you enough for taking time out to show us how to use this programme. You're the best. Thanks again Cass

I finally figured out that i cannot use the select tool to drag around the heart in order to "select everything" rather i must go to Edit - "Select All" and then i am able to use the Clip - Set : ) Again, i really enjoy your videos & appreciate the easy to follow pace you use. Will defiantly watch more & look forward to you continuing to share your skills.

Oh, wow, that is great. I was frustrated by the lack of a shaped gradient, but I'll have to try this next time I need one. Thanks.

For an easier and faster heart shape... Draw a square with the square tool while holding the control key and convert it to a path. Select the top segment with the path tool and add a node with the + button in the toolbar. Then select the bottom segment the same way and add a node in the same way. Now select one of the top corner nodes and then shift and select the other top corner node so they are both selected and select smooth nodes in the toolbar, delete the two bottom corner nodes

Thanks. You explain very well. I am a beginner and have another native language and understood everything. I'll watch all your videos the next time.

Great tutorial ! I save seen inkscape and gimp tuts where people just click and tell things so fast, it get difficult to understand. But yours are quite at a speed required for beginners like me plus with good explanations of the things happening underneath. Great job indeed and thanks for the tuts. Subscribed.
