Jason Scheier clarified on Twitter that d3 wasn’t cancelled, it was never in development to begin with

The gaming industry as a whole has long been taking advantage of the fact that most people who work in that field are passionate and invested in their work. Studios seem to take the stance that "it's a privilege to work in this field, so it's fine if we treat you like crap." It's past time to recognize the fact that devs are human beings and need job security and work/life balance the same as any other industry.

The fact he showed people his cars just to lay them off two days later makes Pete parsons a sick bastard

Nothing. Just back to 'Games dead' to 'Best game ever' loop, and seeing what cars Pete's bidding on.

I remember when only 10 years ago game dev was the dream up there with being a youtuber/streamer, but god damn if it is not a dumpster fire to work in game dev in current year

I’m gonna be honest, it’s less of the events of yesterday, it’s more i feel like this game has given me everything i need to be happy at this point. The witness is dead, I beat the raid, that’s it for me. When the first season started and I tried the seasonal activity, I was just bored and over it. I have throughly enjoyed my time in this game. I have made some of the best friends I have ever made in this game. The events of yesterday just kinda sealed that tomb for me. I’ll continue to watch and pray that one day, this game drags me back. Unless then, my gaurdian has reached the end, I’m ready for retirement.

Cant wait for the Tom Christie video on this situation
  • Turns out all that virtual silver went into buying actual silver for Pete to plate his cars with

In IT sudden layoffs are the rule. The suits are always paranoid someone might do something stupid before logging off (understandably) so they lock us out and then release the news. These being the well-trodden actions borne of desperation, the future of any corp reacting in this way is well known: - They'll struggle on with a skeleton crew.   - The remaining workers will become overburdened and demoralized. - Only the base imperatives will be prioritized.   - Unintentional outages, bugs and other bad things will occur more frequently. - Institutional knowledge has been lost so many otherwise simple tasks will slow down and become harder for those remaining. Not a happy place to work in other words. In essence, product quality will suffer along with employee morale.

Shoutout to everyone who made final shape as good as it was. I’m sad it’s gotta end this way

I do find it funny how some of us were talking about how Pete was running Bungie into the ground last year and it was ignored. Now this comes out and suddenly everyone is paying attention.

I had a coworker like DMG before. Dude was in his 50's had been in the company for more time than the most people and had the know-how to run basicaly the entire business at that point. He was very blunt when it came to his opinions about how the new owner was running things (family business, went from father to son). I remember one day he just said "fuck it" and just left after an altercation with the new brat boss. For weeks it was a clusterfuck working there until the "old boss" came back from retirement before finally changing everything to a hired "CEO". The brat went to open a crypto-thingy whatever they call it and I'm sure he is just burning his fathers money up-to-date. I think there are some people like this in Bungie right now. Great people who have to put with inflated ego boys that only think about money and not the product as a whole.

Decision Pete Parsons was at minimum largely involved in: rejecting the original story for Destiny and subsequently letting Joseph Staten walk, forcing Marty O'Donnell out of the company, letting Activision seize more control over the development of destiny 2 after the reboot, under deliver on light fall to push more content into the seasons/final shape, layoff staff multiple times without personally facing major consequences. He was no doubt involved in some good decisions as well, but almost all of them came in the fallout of his bad decisions.
