Avanti WC Class 805: First day in public service

Published 2024-06-02
Avanti West Coast have finally, yet silently, launched their fleet of Class 805… excuse me what? They're called “Evero”s as well? Didn't realise, but I don't judge. Debuting on services between London and North Wales all the way to Holyhead, I've afforded a return trip from London to Stafford, and now you get a compilation of video clips that were taken of these units. Was it worth spending £41 to ride them first-day, maybe…

Oh, and they do have a buffet counter on each unit. Doesn't mean you can always afford any treats at it, but oh well.

Journeys I have rode on:
805009 1D87, 1302 London Euston to Holyhead
805012 1A48, 1348 Holyhead to London Euston

Money spent:
£41.10 on an Off-Peak Return between London Euston and Stafford (16-17 saver 50% discount included)
(Not going further north, I would be bankrupt otherwise when I book my tickets at 2 hours before departure. Apologies.)

There isn't a lot of "reviewing", I apologize. To compensate, I'd describe more of my opinions here (brace for impact): Seating: I've had them further up north than Stafford, they are acceptable in my eyes. Armrests are too thin (I'm fine with them slightly lower than usual) and thats really it. Amenities: they're alright, 9/10. Whoever decided the plug sockets should be so low down behind each seat should be banned from making transport-related decisions altogether. I personally like the reading lights behind each seat (can be dimmed as well) and everything else is fine. Toilet door tapping into British Leyland: the buttons inside the toilets on 805012 coach A (see footage) barely worked, I had to press the button outside to get it to close, after a few times of trying to make the system think I am trying to close the door. I thought it worked when a lady used it before me, but oh well. Everything else was fine, but please grab on the handrail if you stand and pee. Don't give the cleaners extra hassle. Lastly, I do like the single seats. Available in coach A near the wheelchair area, seat numbers (iirc) are 01 and 03. I have no comment on anything else as they're either the same with refurbished Pendolinos or copy and pasted from previous IETs.

side note: according to RTT on departures for tomorrow (03/06), most services to chester and holyhead are 80x and no longer voyagers, and some services terminating at crewe were operated by 80x edit: most services, not all, but check anyway on any train thats not that common

On the camera portion, maybe it's because you hold the camera with your right hand, and it covers the microphone, but the right ear sound is muffled

Hi : Can you advise if this 'Tilting Type Rolling-stock Carriage train , al -la 'Penolino' !? Any 'feedback' gratefully received.
  • Pretty surprising that AWC decided to get another train on-board announcers, Justine Harris on the 221s, Emma Lintern on the 390s, and Tanya Rich on the 805s and the 807s apparently. Didn't realise the 805s are out today after the timetable change or else I would have surely get on one!

Bit bland innit, I can just about remember travelling on an Intercity 43 back in the 90s . That was pretty depressingly bland too
