I have a theory. When he went to rub the dough on the couch, he put the bowl into a mixing robot and actually rubbed something different on the couch.

My technique for the "is the onion safe to consume" game: Cut top and bottom off of onion. If the core looks bad, it is not safe. If the outer layers look bad, peel them off until only good layers remain. The onion is now safe.
