Staying hydrated is key to playing quality pickleball. But there are so many misconceptions about how to stay hydrated properly. Jason Aspes sits down to speak with author of The Salt Fix & Win, and expert on the importance of sodium in hydration, Dr James Dinicolantonio.

We talk about why products such as ReLyte, which are mined by Redmond, in the salt flats of Utah, are so beneficial to staying hydrated. We dig into the science of sweat, pre-hydrating, and staying focused on the pickleball court.

Shout out to Redmond and ReLyte for making the introduction to Dr. James and making the best hydration products on the market.

You can find their products at redmond.life/products/re-lyte-hydration

  • We have several types of salt at home: Himalayan, Celtic, Hawaiian red, Kala Namak (black), even Georgian. They all taste slightly different and they all have different mineral content. Salt rules!

Some good stuff here. Playing in Florida is KILLER on your system. I will be experimenting.

Thanks so much for having Dr. D on. Learned a ton of things I "thought" I already knew. I've been struggling to find out why my heart rate jumps and stays high. ER visit put a bag in my arm and it dropped in minutes after running real high for 4+ hours. This info will great help me find the answer to the "hydration" nightmare most of us have at one level or another. Need to pick up "WIN"

Thank you for this. I've been struggling with hydration because of keto and less salt intake. This makes a lot of sense!
  • The thing with Asian countries drinking hot fluids in hot weather is more to do with inducing sweating to start the natural cooling mechanism of evaporation on the skin.

Thanks Jason, super helpful interview! This clarified a lot of questions and introduced new ideas to explore. Great work!

The Bible says we are the salt of the earth. Makes sense to take it.
  • Eat 250 grams of pan-fried bacon, 100 to 150 grams of tomato paste without sugar, and a decent salad. Problem solved! I guarantee your heart weakness will go away, and you'll have tons of energy. For the record, 100 grams of pan-fried bacon has 1700 milligrams of sodium and 550 milligrams of potassium, bioavailable magnesium and essential fats. Bacon is a superfood; tomato paste is also.

The one problem I have with the Redmond salt is that they go to great lengths to mine a salt that doesn't have any micro plastics in it, and then they package it in plastic containers, there by contaminating the salt.

I find cold water too hard to drink. Cool water is ok, maybe slightly under room temperature
  • @nathanlister9016
Just so I understood correctly, if BUN levels are high in blood work it would be an indication of dehydration/low sodium?
  • @SSJChar
didn't realize pre hydration would be so important. i'll give it a try tonight before pb i often get headaches after heavy sweating during pb, is that an electrolyte problem? i am definitely a heavy sweater and i feel like my sweat is incredibly salty.
  • @hoyin324
so drinking water without salt is bad for body?
  • Is there a good Salt tablet I could add to my day? I salt to taste my food. I am new to Carnivore diet about 5 days in and getting legs cramps at night. I either need more water or more salt or both.
  • @SteakandChains
Did he seriously say 35 degree F is slightly colder than refrigerator temperature 🤣. Great interview
  • @user-bk9zl1id8f
What about high blood pressure medication and salt on Carnivore I was de hydrated once and now I have salt
  • @Duweee3
Any salt recommendations other than Redmond?
  • When the pickle guy started to talk about chinese…I immediately, changed channel…
